Obituary of Giuseppe Creatore
We are saddened to announce the death of Giuseppe (Pino) Creatore. He died peacefully at Cummer Lodge after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He passed much too soon and will be deeply missed by his family and loved ones. We hope he is finally at peace.
Pino was born on November 1st 1940 in Rutigliano, Italy, a beautiful region of Puglia, to parents Maria (Loiacono) and Giambattista Creatore. He was the youngest of six children and was doted on by his four older sisters – Isabella, Angela, Rosa and Flora and his older brother Vito. He was an intelligent, but rambunctious and energetic child who was frequently in trouble with his teachers and once got expelled from a monastic school for putting a frog in the hood of the head monk. He found his calling when his energy was diverted into sports and he excelled in track and field and soccer and competed internationally for Italy in high jump.
He studied science and agriculture in Italy and Holland and after completing his military service, he came to Canada in 1967 as part of a Federal initiative to encourage people with agricultural science backgrounds to come to Canada. It was here that he met Cheryl (nee Elliott) and they began their 56-year life journey together. Married in 1968 they had one child – Maria Isabella (Marisa) Creatore. Throughout the rest of the 60’s and 70’s they frequently travelled (and lived) between their two home countries, finally settling down in Canada in the 1980’s and making their home in Toronto. Pino was an entrepreneur and businessman whose independence and thirst for adventure and travel were well-suited to a career focused on international trade that had him travelling regularly to Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and South America. Pino and his family maintained strong ties with Italy and the many friends and family they had there. After retiring Pino and Cheryl spent many months in Italy every year.
In addition to Cheryl and Marisa, Pino leaves behind his grandchildren Jacob and Anna Sofia, his son-in-law Daniel (Marcovitch), his sister Angela, and many nieces and nephews.
The family has chosen to hold a private ceremony to honour Pino and asks that mourners consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada in lieu of flowers.
