Bereavement Services and Community Education

To offer ongoing care to the families we serve, Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles - Newbigging Chapel Limited established Bereavement Services & Community Education: a program to assist those who have recently experienced the death of a family member or friend. Trained personnel, referral resources, bereavement support groups and an extensive lending library are available to you.

THE LIBRARY

We believe the library is an excellent resource for both the grieving and for those in the caring professions. We have over 500 books as well as brochures and articles available to borrow or read in one of our lounges. Widowhood, terminal illness, aging, inspirational, and books for and about children are but a few of the categories covered. Audio visual material is also available.

MEMORIAL BOOK DONATION PROGRAM

There are many ways in which to honour an individual who has passed away: one option is to donate a volume to our library in remembrance of the individual. An inscription will be made on the front page of the book dedicating it to the memory of the person of your choice. This gift will assist both the bereaved and those who seek to support them.

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUPS

Participating in a group can be a source of support for someone facing the grief that follows death. There are no easy answers, but the sharing of common experiences and concerns can help the bereaved discover new strengths and insights which can aid in the recovery process. Finding support and encouragement may ease the pain and struggle. Please call us at 416-485-6415 for information on the times and locations of our programs. You can also receive our complimentary L.I.F.T. Newsletter by mail.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION

Our speakers bureau is pleased to be called upon to provide a speaker on topics relating to death, dying and bereavement. Parent groups, churches, schools, corporations, and community organizations have each made use of this service. If you are interested in having someone speak to your group, please do not hesitate to contact us.
