Obituary of Aart (Ed) Jansen

 

Born January 11, 1947 in Zeist, the Netherlands, deceased February 19, 2023, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre Palliative Care Unit, after a long battle with cancer and heart disease. 

 

He will be missed by his sister Sjoukje (Shirley); friend Diane Ioannou and her family; cousins in Canada, Anne, Jacob, Doetje, Willem, Michiel and the late Randy, of the Leegsma family; and in the Netherlands, Aart Alberts, Greetje Hayes and their families; as well as his many friends. 

 

Ed immigrated to Canada with his late parents Heimen (Case) and Tietje (Tina) and sister Sjoukje (Shirley) in 1950. He was educated at McConaghy Public School, Richmond Hill High School and the University of Toronto, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce after which he became a Certified Management Accountant. At the University of Toronto, he was an active member of Phi Kappa Sigma, which continued throughout his life.

 

Throughout his career Ed worked in various financial and administrative managerial positions for the Ontario Government in the Ministries of Housing, Health and Finance.

 

We would like to thank the staff of the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Odette Cancer Centre, University Health Network cardiology division and North York General Hospital palliative care team.

 

The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles-Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville) on Tuesday, March 7th from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. Reception and interment to follow.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed's memory may be made to the Sunnybrook Foundation for cancer research, University Health Network cardiology division, Tau Sigma Phi (Alpha Beta chapter of Phi Kappa Sigma alumni association) or a charity of your choice.  Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
