Obituary of Bruce Jackson Grantier

Bruce passed away peacefully on February 7, 2023, surrounded by his four favourite ladies, Sharon, wife of over 51 years, daughters, Jennifer (Neil) and Catherine (Robert) and granddaughter, Katie. He was predeceased by his parents, Bruce Jackson Sr. and Leona and infant granddaughter, Annie. Loving brother to Steve (Linda) and Robert. Boppa to Katie, Alexander, Bradley, Matthew, Luke and Charlie. Proud Uncle to Chris, Meredith, Daniel and Veronica.

Bruce spent his childhood years in Saudi Arabia, enjoying family travels throughout Europe and the Middle East. Subsequently, his family moved to Toronto and he loved his years at York Mills C.I., developing many lifelong friendships. He earned his BASc (Industrial Engineering) from U of T, often regaling his family with stories of his times playing the trumpet in the Lady Godiva Memorial Band and with his fraternity, DKE.  He met the love of his life, Sharon, in 1970 and later completed his MBA and CFA designation. He began his investment career with Confederation Life and retired from Scotiabank, as Vice President of Corporate Pensions, in 2008.

He was passionate about helping others and dedicated many years to volunteering on committees and Boards, including the Archdiocese of Toronto, Catholic Missions, Queen’s University, Havergal College, Toronto CFA Society, the Granite Club and the Brandes Institute.  Away from his desk, he was an avid reader and started his own investment research company, InvestorLit, after retirement. He was a passionate tennis player and spent many mornings at the Granite Club on the tennis court with his wife and his buddies. Bruce loved spending time with his family at their Muskoka cottage, where he enjoyed working outdoors. He hand built a beautiful granite patio and pathway down to the lake that will leave an everlasting impression on the landscape and our family. He also loved overseas travel and had a soft spot for ski trips to Whistler, BC.

Our family would like to recognize all the staff, personal support workers, nurses, chaplains and doctors at Isabel and Arthur Meighen Manor, where Bruce bravely battled dementia for several years. Their exceptional care, love and compassion for Bruce has touched us all.

The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville) from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12.  A Funeral Mass will be held in Blessed Sacrament Parish, 24 Cheritan Avenue (at Yonge) on Monday, February 13 at 10:30 a.m.  Interment Mount Hope Cemetery.
