Obituary of Gerald (Jerry) William Sholtack
GERALD WILLIAM SHOLTACK (Jerry)
Jerry passed away at St. Michael’s Hospital on January 29, 2023, at the age of 75. Jerry was diagnosed with Gaucher’s disease, a hereditary disease, at the age of one and was not expected to live for as long and for as productive a life as he did. He was a loving partner and father to his wife Lianne, and daughter Stacey and her husband Andrei Tokarev. He was predeceased by his doting mother Rachael, who struggled with Bi-Polar Mental Health problems, and father Max. He has two older surviving brothers: Dr. David Wayne of Montreal, and Leslie Davis of North York. He struggled with his illness throughout his life with patience and fortitude. Jerry cherished his home and family life. He was an active participant in the lives of his nieces and nephews and their children in Toronto, and Calgary, and will be missed for his historical and political insights, and many energetic conversations.
Jerry grew up in Toronto, attended Bloor Collegiate and participated in an active senior class that still meets regularly. He graduated in 1966 as an Ontario Scholar. He attended University College at the University of Toronto, and continued to complete a Bachelor of Law Degree, and was called to the bar in 1974.
In his professional life Jerry found the field of tax law fascinating and worked for the Provincial Government in the Ministries of Revenue and Finance from 1974 to 2018, reaching the position of Director of Legal Services. He will be remembered for his knowledge of dates, precedents, as well as his great sense of humour. He will be missed by his high school pals, law school friends, colleagues, and neighbours of Market Square Condominium, as well as his family.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 2, at 4:00 p.m. at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W.
