Sending our sincere condolences at this very difficult time. Jerry was a wonderful uncle and great uncle and he will be deeply missed. Jerry clearly touched the lives of many people as he did ours. We’ll miss our spirited discussions with him about politics, history and current affairs at our family and holiday get-togethers. It was a privilege to have had him in our lives.
Love,
Elise, Paul, Zoe, Hayley

It was my pleasure and privilege to work with Jerry at the Ministry of Finance for more than 20 years. Jerry demonstrated tireless dedication and commitment to his work, and he inspired those around him with his enthusiasm for the work and his recognition of the broader significance of our work for all Ontarians. Jerry's insights went far beyond our work at the ministry, and he often regailed us with stories and anecdotes of historical events, linking them to the context of our present experiences.
It was also my pleasure to get to know Jerry on a more personal note and to have him as a sounding board for the various trials, tribulations and joys that arose over the years. Jerry always had a balanced perspective to share. One of the joys that I was pleased to share with Jerry was news of the courtship with my (future) husband, who Jerry knew through our shared work. It was our honour to have Jerry and Lianne join us at our wedding and be part of our treasured memories.
While it has been almost five years since Jerry left the Ministry, not a week goes by that we don't refer to the work that he did or the wisdom that he imparted to us. Jerry's work and advice is reflected in countless areas of provincial legislation and regulation, as well as the design of numerous tax policies. As a colleague, professional, and friend, Jerry's impact will live on through all who knew and respected him.

During my career in the property tax field, I had occasion to work with Jerry, and subsequently Dianne and I became good friends with Jerry and Lianne.
Even though he worked with the bad guys, I always respected Jerry for his abilities and dedication to his client, and more importantly, his dedication to the rule of law. His insight into this complicated field of law was incredible. His manner, however, was not governed only by intellect, but also by his humility and humour.
Later, Dianne and I became friends with Jerry and Lianne. Lianne was the perfect partner for Jerry, and never hesitated to challenge him if she had a different opinion, viewpoint or political persuasion! We really had a good time together, enjoying stimulating conversations, often edging to open-minded debate. Jerry’s views were always well informed, researched, and thought-provoking. He will be missed. Richard Poole
