Obituary of Michael Snow
MICHAEL SNOW
December 10, 1928 –
January 5, 2023
Artist Michael Snow – filmmaker, musician, photographer, painter, sculptor, holographer, witty and eloquent inventor of ideas and images – died quietly at Toronto General Hospital after a brief respiratory infection. Though recent months had presented some health challenges, his passing coincided with a recent full retrospective of his films in Paris and a concurrent exhibition at Galerie Martine Aboucaya. His new book, My Mother’s Collection of Photographs, was featured there, and a major retrospective is planned for spring-summer 2023 through Jack Shainman Gallery in New York.
The New York Times and the Globe and Mail published full and impressive obituaries on January 6, 2023, for which we are grateful.
He leaves his wife, Peggy Gale, son, Alexander Snow, and sister, Denyse Rynard, along with an extended family.
A private funeral will be held on Friday, January 13, and a much larger, public celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
