Obituary of Barbara Helen Castledine

In the early morning of December 14, 2022, in Toronto, Barbara Helen Castledine (Barb) passed away after fighting a battle with Cancer at the young age of 59. She lived in Toronto for most of her life, where she raised her three children and within the last ten + years, lived in the Regent Park neighborhood where she was active and loved by her community. In a full adventurous life, Barb treasured time with family and friends above all.

She will be deeply missed by her family, to whom she devoted her life. A proud mother to sons Corey and Christopher and daughter, Caylin. A daughter to Judy, who will miss her so incredibly much and an amazing sister to siblings Karen, Angela, and Grant. Barb was an incredible mother- in-law, Grand-mother, aunt, friend, and partner and will be missed by many. She will be reunited with her sister Wendy, father John, and Stepmother, Isabell who had predeceased her.

Barbara was born on October 28, 1963, to Judy and John. Barbara lived a life that had many obstacles, but she hurdled over them with strength and integrity. Barbara had a deep, devoted love for her three children Corey, Christopher, and Caylin. Even though life was never the easiest, Barbara poured her heart and soul into ensuring her children had the best possible life. Barbara was a kind and giving person with a heart full of empathy and love. She helped many people along the way, whether it was making a meal for someone or giving up her couch for the night. Barbara always gave what she could, with the little she had. She will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity. Barbara was a woman who prioritized family as a major importance in her life. She always had a way of immediately making you feel like part of the family; when she had family gatherings, she always made everyone feel loved and accepted. Barbara’s siblings Karen, Grant, and Angela will miss her dearly and always remember her presence and ability to bring the family together. Barbara was very funny and bold. She will always be remembered for the funny statements she made and her powerful presence. Barbara had a love and passion for animals and her community. You could always find her meeting and communicating with the pets she met along the way as well as her own. Some would even call her a crazy cat lady, but we loved her for that. Regarding her community, Barbara was very active in getting involved with her housing community and helping to advocate for the residents. She also was an active ally for the indigenous community in Toronto. We will all remember Barb for being strong, loud, and powerful, yet as gentle and vulnerable as a kitten. We will all miss Barbara infinitely, but we know she is home now partying it up with her dad John, her stepmom Isabell, and her younger sister, Wendy.

We will see her on the other side. We will surely miss our mom, sister, niece, friend, and partner. The hole she has left in our lives can never be replaced.
