Liz & I met 59 years ago at Camp Tapawingo on Georgian Bay. Our youthful friendship included many high points; a visit to Expo 67, staying up all night after the BSS formal, a weekend visit to Trent University which included drinking beer, & weekend visits to the farm in Claremont. Marriage & children meant that we only got to chat periodically on the phone but each time we fell into an easy repartee. Throughout the years I came to appreciate Liz’s passion for all things political including campaigning for several well-known Liberals. In recent years, every conversation drifted to Canadian, American or gender politics. Liz always made informed comments that had me thinking once the conversation was over. Her love of the Beatles & rock music was another hot topic to discuss.
I will miss Liz’s positivity and I applaud her strength of will in dealing, without complaint, her Parkinson’s diagnosis, which proved to be such a debilitating disease. Her strong connection to her cherished family helped her deal with the physical & mental challenges.
Liz was so proud of her son’s accomplishments & she was thrilled to welcome their three wives into the Stewart family. A highlight that gave her so much pleasure was holding in her arms her two grandchildren while singing to them. We often talked about how they were growing & changing every time she saw them. She was looking forward to bonding with her newest grandson.
Liz was a good friend, and she will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
In deepest sympathy
