Sheila Allen

Obituary of Sheila Elisabeth Allen

SHEILA ELISABETH ALLEN (nee Bird)

May 5, 1935 – October 6, 2022

Sheila was born in England and moved to Toronto with her mother, brother, and sister when she was five.  After receiving her teachers’ certificate, Sheila met her future husband, John Allen and they married in 1956. Over the next ten years, John and Sheila went on to have four sons, Jim, Tim, Michael and Christopher.  Following Jim’s birth, Sheila decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic mother. She excelled at supporting her husband and sons through all of life’s ups and downs.

Sheila, known to many as “She” or “Grandma She” was a passionate reader, cook, volunteer, traveller, and devout member of Timothy Eaton Memorial Church where she was involved in many church programs including the establishment of The Churches on the Hill Food Bank which continues to serve those in need. She constantly filled her home in Toronto and cottage on Georgian Bay with warmth and kindness. She loved to entertain and the more the merrier. We will all miss her dearly.

Sheila was predeceased by her parents Grace Bird (nee Elliot) and James Bird and her brother James (Jamie) Bird. She is survived by her husband, John D. Allen, and sons Jim (Jan) Tim (Laurie) Michael (Lori) and Chris (Lauren) her sister Margaret Bird (John Fisher predeceased).  She is also survived by her grandchildren Cameron, Geoffrey (Katie), Celine, Alastair, Emily, and Matthew and recent great grandchild, Ashley.
