Dear Family of Dr. Ian Graham,
I want to offer my sincerest condolences to Dr. Graham's family. I have know Ian since I came to work at the Wellesley Hospital Department of Psychiatry in 1978 as a young psychiatrist. Ian had just joined the Wellesley as a psychiatric/psychoanalytic consultant and was a breath of fresh air--he led a Friday seminar, "the psycho-diagnostic seminar" where each of the staff would present their clinical work and then Ian would discuss the psychoanalytic conflicts, themes, and possible interventions. The seminar was highly informative, enjoyable, and filled with Ian's boyish enthusiasm--to me it was the high-point of the week. Ian was also my psychotherapy supervisor and led our Wellesley supervisory group. We had film nights and went out for group dinners and it was always great fun to be with your Ian. I became an analyst and enjoyed Ian's comments, and then I became a training analyst, and felt his warmth--Ian could be strong-minded about certain things but his heart was always in the right place and he was someone we looked up to. Of course I will be one of many who miss him, but we will remember him as a fine and kind person, an excellent clinician and teacher.
