GEORGE WALTEN THOMAS TWINE
1943-2022
George, a geographer by education, left a large impression in this world when he passed away on Wednesday July 27th. Loving husband of Carol for 51 years. Cherished father of Jennifer Stiff (Andrew) and adoring grandfather of Emily and Aubrey. Precious brother of Marilyn Galloway (Ernie), and loved by niece, Wendy Rogalski (Gerry) and nephew, Scott Galloway (Tammy).
George will be fondly remembered by work colleagues at Victoria Park and C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institutes for his passion in teaching geography and his leadership on educational adventures to Pond Inlet in Nunavut and Cuba. He coached many school teams including his favourite, women’s soccer, and of course coached Jennifer’s soccer team. An avid hiker, George explored trails in the Bruce, Newfoundland and the Dolomites to name a few. For him, hiking was geography in action. His artistic zeal was playing the classical guitar, studying under William Beauvais and in an ensemble led by Raffi Altounian.
George was always kind and ready with a quip to brighten your day. We were all his ‘pips’, ‘frogswool’ or ‘rapscallions’ depending on the day of the week and how the spirit moved him. He will be deeply missed by family and friends including neighbors in their pocket of Don Mills where he and Carol called home for 44 years. Grampy, as he was often called, will be remembered for his nighttime story-telling, geography trivia and enthusiasm for all his granddaughters’ interests.
The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville) from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5th. A service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will occur at St. Peter’s Cemetery, London, ON. If desired, donations can be made to TVOntario or North York General Foundation.
