Donna Harrington

Obituary of Donna Harrington

(nee McCaig)

June 27th, 1947 - June 11, 2022

It is with profound sadness that we make this announcement.  Daughter of the late Blake and Marion McCaig, Donna was born in Toronto, Ontario on June 27th, 1947 and passed away June 11, 2022 at the age of 74. Donna was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in February of 2021 and fought a remarkably courageous battle until the end. Throughout Donna’s illness her daughters cared for her tirelessly.

Donna was a wonderful wife of 56 years to Grant and an exceptional mother to her children Karen, Deanne, twin Suzanne (deceased) and Michelle whom she loved beyond measure. Through Donna’s unending love, support, and guidance, her three daughters grew into accomplished career women and wonderful mothers in their own right.

Donna will be greatly missed by her brother Lorne (Katherine) McCaig; her sons-in-law David Cornell, James Potter and Paul Trumper and her seven grandchildren Graeme, Andrew and Lauren Cornell; Daina and Evelyn Potter and Grace and Eleanor Trumper, all of whom she loved deeply and was so very proud of.

Donna had a full life. Her talents were many, but her artistry brought her the most pleasure. She was a talented seamstress and later in life she became an accomplished watercolor artist. Above all, Donna derived the most pleasure and satisfaction out of caring for others. She enjoyed good company and socialized with the countless friends she made throughout her life. Donna will be greatly missed by her extended family and several close friends.

We wish to thank all the incredible “angels” we met along the way who assisted Donna in her journey-her family physician, Dr. M. Sabouba; Dr. Anderson and Dr. Dudley of the Milton District Hospital; her attending nurse “Miss Lily”, Julie Appleton and Robert Tees of the Hamilton Palliative Care Outreach Team. Lastly, under the guidance and compassionate leadership of Beverley Yates, the exceptional nurses, staff and volunteers at Margaret’s Place Hospice are to be commended for the loving care they provided to Donna, on an hourly basis, to keep her peaceful and comfortable during her final days.

The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 16 at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville) with visitation one hour prior to the service. Donations to Margaret’s Place Hospice (foundation@sjv.on.ca) would be sincerely appreciated. Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
