Obituary of Maxine Joy Springer
Springer, Maxine Joy “Macci” (née Saunders), age 86, of Toronto, passed away suddently on June 6, 2022, surrounded by her family at Sunnybrook Hospital after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease,
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Hammond (Don) Springer, her daughter, Terri Lipman (Robert Webster), her grandchildren, Nathan and Sam Webster, and her brother, David Saunders (Mary).
Maxine was born in Toronto on January 23, 1936 to Ruth (Steinberg) Saunders and Edward Saunders.
She attended Oakwood Collegiate Institute, Ontario College of Art, and The George Brown College of Applied Arts and Technology.
She was a marvellous artist and loved to sketch at jazz clubs and restaurants. She was a super scrabble player, joke teller, avid reader and walker. Her walks would take her from one end of the city to the other where she would strike up conversation with people she would meet along the way. She was ‘open’ to the world around her and so memorable to all her knew her.
Maxine was fiercely devoted to her family and Don was the light of her life - ‘her rock’. He looked after her at home until the end.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 25th, from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles - Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville).
