Josephine Walsh-Beck

Obituary of Josephine Mary Walsh-Beck

Jo passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at the age of 92 years. Beloved wife of the late Terry Beck. She will be sadly missed by her sister Anne (Ray); children Linda, Gwyneth (Terry), Daniel (Victoria), Damien, David (Kim), and Michael; stepson Larry Beck; grandchildren Jonathan (Crystal), Stephanie (Andrew), Leah, and Riley; great-grandchildren Lucas, Jacob, Harrison, and Penelope. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews and their families: Antony, Christopher, Francesca, Juliet, Sherry, Robert, Susan, and Geoffrey; and her cousins Bernadette, Teresa, George, and Tony. Also predeceased by her parents Maurice and Hilda Monger, son Marc Walsh, stepson Patrick Beck, and first husband Daniel Walsh.

Jo was born in Bristol, England and grew up in Worthing and London. She moved to Canada in 1957; first to Edmonton and, nine years later, to Toronto. She taught children with special needs for the Toronto Separate School Board. She was a lover of musicals and even tried her hand at acting once. Although she was a devoted Maple Leafs and Blue Jays fan, her favourite sport was tennis. She was an excellent player and worked as a tennis instructor. It was on a summer day on a tennis court that she met her husband Terry. After 32 years, they passed within a few days of one another and will be laid to rest together. Jo was supportive, caring, and full of unconditional love for her family. She has left us with many wonderful memories.
