Obituary of Peter Anthony Timmins

Peter Anthony Timmins
September 18, 1956 - April 11, 2022

Surrounded with love from close friends and family, Peter Anthony Timmins died peacefully in his sleep on April 11, 2022. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Born in Toronto to parents Gerald and Mary Timmins, he was third of six siblingspredeceased by Michael and survived by Mary Jane, Paul (Jackie), Patrick (Sue Ann), and Julie. Beloved father to Leila (Sam), Noah (Ella), Matthew (Darcie), and John, and uncle to Bobby (Kristen), Mollie, and Thomas. He was very social by nature and had many adoring friends who always looked out for him.

Peter led an adventurous and colourful life, especially in his later years, traveling the world and visiting often with his kids. He was charismatic, quick-witted, and incredibly funny, always making people laugh with his dry sense of humour. He was also discerning, holding a deep sense of his values and beliefs.

Above all, Peter knew how to live a good life and when he loved something, he loved it deeply. If it was a brisket sandwich, catching live music, or swimming off the pier in Collingwood after a day of golf, he always knew the “best” spot, and could tell you with conviction why it should be your favourite too. Coffee and food were a passion, declaring often that he, “never met a food truck he didn’t like.” He was also an avid golfer and longtime member at Mad River. Winning bragging rights amongst his friends, he was the Seniors’ Club Champion in 2017 and 2018, and scored five holes-in-one over the years, including one last summer while undergoing grueling chemotherapy.

Buoyed by the support and love of his AA home group, he celebrated 20 years of sobriety this past August. He was dedicated to helping others on their own path to sobriety, welcoming newcomers in the program, volunteering at Bellwood Addiction Treatment Centre, and receiving a diploma in addictions carework from McMaster.

Peter will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul, loved deeply by his friends and family.
