Obituary of Mineko Takeshita
Mineko “Mimi” Takeshita (née Arai)
1948 – 2022
We are very sad to announce that Mineko, 73, passed away on April 5, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. Surrounded by her daughters, her spirit left her home in Toronto to join her heavenly home.
Born to Takeshirou and Raku Arai in Japan, Mineko leaves behind her sister, Yukiko and brothers, Katsuichiro and Masakatsu. Loving mother to daughters Tomomi (Daniel), Harumi (Eric) and their father, Koichi, she was blessed with granddaughter Erica (Amro) and great-granddaughter Aliyah. She’ll be joining her youngest daughter, Akiko, in heaven.
Mimi touched many lives throughout her active life as a resident nurse in Japan, full-time mother of three, tour guide and boutique store manager in Canada, and retired caregiver to her grandkids and Buffy (fluffy dog). Her beautiful presence somehow made everyone around her be nicer, more understanding and compassionate to each other. The world is a kinder place because of her influence. Her parting instruction was for us to honour her life by continuing to practice compassion (including self-compassion!) and to always do everything we can to help those in need without judgment or remorse.
The last part of her journey was not easy but Mimi met every hardship with courage and a smile. We wish to thank the amazing staff at Princess Margaret Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital, Philip Aziz Centre for Hospice Care and Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care for their support that let Mimi live fully in the comfort of her own home, always surrounded by her loved ones.
To celebrate Mimi’s life-long commitment to helping others, please volunteer your time or make a donation to a charity of your choice to help those in need. There won’t be a viewing or a service for health and safety reasons.
