Obituary of John Duffy
John Duffy, loving father and husband, visionary strategist, prize-winning author, city-builder, and founding partner of StrategyCorp Inc., died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at his home in Toronto. Born on November 5, 1963 in Toronto, John was a proud alumnus of the University of Toronto Schools and Trinity College, University of Toronto. Duffy was renowned for his creativity and brilliance as a strategist and communicator. He was a veteran of many political and community campaigns. He was a volunteer advisor to former Prime Minister Paul Martin, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, former Ontario Premier Bob Rae, and Toronto Mayor John Tory. He was the author of Fights of Our Lives: Elections, Leaders, and the Making of Canada, which is considered one of the best and most accessible books ever written on Canadian politics and history. He will be remembered for his passion, depth of knowledge, overwhelming humanity, advocacy for the many issues he cared about, compassion, and warmth. He channeled his love for Toronto and Canada into making these places as great as he dreamed they could be. Above all, he was a deeply generous and massively loving father to Martine and Simone, husband to Madame Justice Jill Presser, brother to Elaine Evans and Aubrey Duffy, son to Dennis and the late Mary Ann Duffy, colleagues, and his many friends.
