Shock is the best way to describe the passing of Geoffrey. Comparative to me, in position of life in a far higher capacity, my dealings with him were amenable and thorough relative to work I did for him at Sydenham Lake. What can I say? Anything seems insufficient but I will communicate to all his family that in life, "Nothing comes to us too soon but sorrow." (Philip Bailey)
That is a start, but to all I wish to state in complete confidence on the truth of the reality, that in the sorrow felt by those closest to him, "Where there is sorrow there is holy ground." (Oscar Wilde)
In the temporal separation and sorrow this has brought, "Pure and complete sorrow is as impossible as pure and complete joy." (Tolstoy) But why? It is because "complete" sorrow would slay those close to the deceased. I know the hurt, I have felt the pain, and all must walk through that same valley.
Sorrow involves not just the mind, but the soul, spirit, and body. As it is, sorrow in its place for those who are closest at the very least tears a big hole in the heart and assails the spirit and souls of those left adrift in the sea of pain, emotional suffering and regret. There is no temporal shelter, no release, and no relief from what assails us. Time alone only dulls the hurt, and memories carried to our own end.
In our existences, we know not when the bell will toll for each of us. The white line on the highway keeps us from death as all it takes is for one to cross it and hit us head on. That is the easiest way to illustrate the perils we face but never consider.
I have a four word tribute to Geoffrey, to cut myself short, as he of all people knew I was loquacious and while controversial, I noted his ability to stick handle amiably around differences of opinion.
My short four words? Simply "a life well lived." I might add it was too short for the liking of any of his family and even one such as myself with an opinion of him that embodied respect and even admiration. To be honest with all, there are not a whole lot I do respect let alone admire in this temporal existence. Geoffrey was a noted exception, one I will not forget.
Always Edward

Our most deepest and heartfelt sympathies go out to all the Guy and Ross families at this time upon hearing of Geoffreys passing. We will always remember and admire his love and devotion to Marin, his children, and to all of his family . Geoffrey always made himself available to us whenever we needed anything for his father while he was with us at his home in Naples, and would speak with him daily. It was always the highlight of his fathers time in Naples when Geoffrey, Marin, and the children would come for their spring break visits. We will miss his sense of fairness, fun, and good humor. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you during this time of great sadness.

Our deepest sympathies to Marin, Will, Olivia and Charlie. Watching the service on Friday made it clear that Geoffrey and Marin were a great team and raised three thoughtful caring children. Heartfelt condolences to Jennifer, Sheila and David, and the whole Guy and Ross clans. Geoffrey’s memory will live on through all of your wonderful and funny memories. Knowing Bev, we could picture her putting Geoffrey in 5 year old Jennifer’s arms. Thinking of all of you, Paulette and Doug

Our thoughts are with you and the kids during this sad time. Geoffrey's light was a bright one that will shine on. It won't be the same without Geoff's infectious smile, laugh and hijinks at the club and ski camps. He has left an impact on our lives that we will aspire to embody.

His active lifestyle whether it be skiing, biking or working outdoors on the family homestead was ever present. We always enjoyed his quick wit and humour. He will be truly missed by all who had the opportunity to cross paths with him.
What a sad day and huge loss to all who knew him,

My condolences to the entire Guy clan for this tremendous loss. I lovingly remember all the epic water fights, reckless go-carting and boisterous laughs shared amongst our families every summer. Geoffrey, and his playful spirit, was in the center of it all. Although I haven’t had the chance to meet Will, Olivia and Charlie, I can only image how FUN Geoffrey was as a father, and i'm so sorry for your loss.
Sending all my love from Montréal,
Christine Connolly

My heart goes out to Marin, Will, Lulu, Charlie and the entire Guy family. Geoffrey was so full of life and so much fun.
I am going to miss him, but he left me with wonderful memories like of the time we spent together in Snowmass with Marin and Mel. I can still hear him yodeling at Mel and her father!

I had the pleasure of working with Geoff for the past 5 years. He was the heart and joker of the office. Always shining light and making everyone feel welcome and could always put a smile on your face even on the worst days. He will be deeply missed although his presence and memories in the office will live on forever. My sincerest thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.

I wanted to send my deepest sympathies. I was a friend from University. I have such fond memories of our time together. The trip in a rented van to Sandbanks, the drive in movie theater, time at his happy place his cottage on his wind surfer or in Lennoxville and the sounding area. Geoffrey always made any adventure fun.
Sending my sincere condolence to his entire family.

I had the honour to work with Geoffrey for 26 amazing years. He was a dedicated Portfolio Manager, who cared deeply for his clients and the people in his branch. Hardworking and playful all rolled into one. He was the life of our office, with the most contagious laugh, and his pranks were epic. His open door policy, and a huge supply of treats, made his office the place to be. He was the best Boss anyone could ever ask for, and I am so grateful for every day we got to work together.
Geoffrey will be missed by anyone who knew him. We are all so lucky to have had this wonderful man in our lives.
Marin, Will, Olivia and Charlie, my heartbreaks for your immense loss. Know that you were the light in his life.

Marin and Family,
My name is Ian de Haas and I went to high school with Geoff. The obit says it all! Furthermore, I don't think anyone could say a negative thing about Geoff - a wonderful 'guy' and BIG kid! Did we ever have fun in high school!!!! Besides studying really hard.... I remember the odd party in the Guy basement, doing weekend outings to the HIll's farm and hanging with Skip, Peggy and the gang. I moved to Calgary after high school and lost touch with Geoff over the years. Nonetheless, it sounds like he was a wonderful father and husband - no surprise. A great skier too!
I am so sorry for your loss. He was an inspiration to all that crossed paths with him!

What wasn't to love about this wonderful man? Geoff embodied all of the qualities we would like to see in ourselves.
We became friends when we were in our 20s during a Contiki tour of Europe and have stayed in touch ever since. I was very fortunate to experience his joy at the family cottage on Sydenham Lake and to welcome the Christmas season by gathering with his friends at the family farm for the Bolton Santa Claus parade. Geoff's excitement was infectious and we always had so much fun regardless of what was on the itinerary. Our contact hasn't been frequent in recent years but the conversation always quickly picked up from where we had left it. Our last visit was about 5 years ago over lunch as he shared stories and we pored over pictures of his beautiful family. He was so happy and so proud. That's also when he told me all about the dog he didn't really want but was slowly getting used to.
Geoff was one in a million and I will miss him terribly. My deepest condolences to Marin, Will, Olivia, Charlie, Harry and the rest of Geoff's family. There are no words to express how very much he loved you.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Jill Allen

I met Geoffrey when his mother Bev and I started the Gargyole newspaper for Grace Church on-the-hill in the 1970s. Our 'editorial meetings were in the Guy home and the children in pjs would come down to say good night. It has been a privilege to connect with the Guy family for special celebrations. My wife Judy Maddren and I send our love to Marin and the children and to Jennifer, Sheila, and David. May Geoff rest in peace and rise in glory.

Sheila and Dave McCracken have been cherished friends for decades.
A dozen years ago I dropped in for an afternoon visit at the lake with my then 10 year old son Nic.
Geoffrey and clan were there. We had a blast and didn’t want to leave.
After departure, I remember my son stating “ what a cool, fun and welcoming family”.
I wish I had known him better - we would have been bent over in laughter whilst aiming golf balls at neighbouring cottages…and then howling at the moon!

My sincerest condolences to Marin, their children and Geoff’s family.
I met Geoff nearly 35 years ago on a bus tour of Europe and I quickly learned back then that he had a lust for life that he clearly demonstrated. He was fun and game for anything.
Although I only met his lovely parents in 1993 during a brief stay in Toronto, it was evident back then they had raised a good man because I learned he was also generous, kind and forgiving after I had beached the family boat on rocks at the lake.
I’ve never met Marin, Will, Olivia and Charlie but it was evident from the photos I’ve seen over the years that he was so loving and proud of them. My heart breaks for them.
I hadn’t seen Geoff in nearly 30 years but he was one of those people you don’t forget. Generous of spirit, fun-loving and happy. Geoff led a full and rewarding life and enriched the lives of those around him. He will be missed.
