Windfield Terrace Book Club posted a condolence
Tuesday, February 1, 2022
Remembering Dan: our book club meetings were always better when Dan was there. His presentations of an eclectic selection of books illustrated a mind that never grew old. I am saddened for his family and many who will miss him, myself included.
Nora Bowman
Dan was a thoughtful, kind, wise gentleman and an active member of the Book Club.
I will always miss him at our meetings. Condolences to his family.
Margaret Phillips
I first met Dan and Elizabeth at The Book Club at Windfield Terrace. He was always curious about travel and we talked of our various journeys. He was a such a learned and gentleman. His many contributions to the Book Club were always wonderful giving us interesting books we might not have otherwise read. I shall miss him.
Barbara Burgess"
I had the pleasure of meeting Dan at The Book Club at Windfiled Terrace about four years ago and enjoyed his very interesting book discussions. He knew I spoke French and he always found a moment to chat with me “en français”. My condolences to his family. Marie Nahas

Dear Damov family,
We send you our heartfelt condolences for the loss of your brother, father, grandfather, and uncle. Daniel Damov lived to be 94 years old, and you were fortunate to have such an experienced, wise and empathetic dialogue partner with you for so long.
We also remember his dear wife Elisabeth (née Brugmann), Cord's cousin, through whom we were privileged to know Daniel. The couple visited Europe and Berlin, again and again. Berlin was where Ebeth grew up and where my wife Elli and I are living since many years. When Damovs came to our city, we spent a lot of time together, made trips and discussed everything thoroughly.
Daniel was always interested in everything we looked at and all the ideas we expressed. He commented from his vast world experience and knowledge of history, always pursuing humane ideals. Thus he became like an older brother to us. However, we communicated only by phone and email in the last few years. When Ebeth had died, he constantly returned the question " how are you?" with "my family visits me, I have support, I attend the reading circle, or I'm reading this or that". Following the philosopher René Descartes, his answer could also be understood as " I read, therefore I am (doing well)!"
As the pastor recommended, let's turn our shared grief into talking about a loved person's memory. Thank you, Nat, Yukon and Chuck, for starting this with your speeches at the funeral service in Toronto on January 15, which we attended via internet streaming.
Dear ones, "let's keep in touch", as Dani always said - "über die Meere weit (across the seas wide)", as Ebeth pointed out.
With warmest regards
Yours Elli and Cord Bahlburg-Begoihn

So sorry to hear that Onkel Dany passed. We had some great times together as a group of immigrant families, didn't we? If there is a heaven, they will be waiting for Mamie to join them. I hope everyone is doing well and miss you and am thinking of you. Love, Annie

Thinking fondly of the intellectual, scholarly gentleman that he was - who could hold forth like no other, and speak with such eloquence. So many memories of our two families together, it's indeed the end of an era. He will be sorely missed.

My sincerest condolences to Mr Damovs family. Travelers Canada was my first employer in 1978. I was there until 1987 when we had to leave due to the restructuring of the company. At the time I was in an administrative role so my dealings with him were not existent. But after our 2012 reunion and obtaining his email address we “spoke” now and then. He was very kind and appreciative of my staying in touch with over 200 of our former colleagues. I will miss hearing from him and give my sincerest condolences to the family. May he and Elizabeth now rest together in peace.

I joined Travelers July 1979 as a 24 year old. Mr. Damov always showed grace and the most gentlemanly demeanour.
I very much enjoyed my time at Travelers and Mr. Damov was one of the reasons why.

My condolences to the Damov family.
Dan Damov was a gentleman, a boss and valued mentor early in my career at IBC and ultimately a friend. In retirement we had enjoyable discussions about books, films, and politics at lunches in Yorkville with other former 'IBCers'.
I had the utmost respect and admiration for Dan and will miss his friendship.
