To all who knew and loved Liz
My fond memories of Liz and family are primarily from the 60's at Bayfield Inlet. I always admired Liz and respected her poise, dignity, confidence, warmth and wit.
Although it has only been over the past couple of years that we have been in touch again discussing a get together at the cottage when Covid seemed to get in the way, I will always cherish the fond memories.
This photo represents just one of those endearing moments during a New Years celebration at my grandparents (Ray & Muriel France) , Hangdog Camp in Bayfield Inlet in the early 60's. The radiance that Liz exudes is how I will remember her.
My wife of 51 years, Linda, and I had so wanted to attend the service but in the interest of everyone's health we will regretfully not attend but know that our warmest thoughts are with you!

Peter and family Liz did so well for so long. We did not know her well but I know she made Peter happy.
I do remember her from the Granite club and the AGO. She was always pleasant to be with and straight forward which I respect.
Our deepest sympathy,
Suzanne and Don Kopas

The first time I was introduced to Liz in Bayfield was also the first time she imitated a flying squirrel scrambling across her roof. I knew we would become fast friends as she hilariously clawed and made ‘thud’ sounds as if she were still under her covers about to wake up to grab her broom. She was a consummate storyteller (a gift she shared with her wonderful partner Peter, complete with Bermuda shorts), a welcoming host to constant drop-ins at her dock. She was never without anything to give or share. Her presence always assured that there was always a platter or two of something I better get to before it’s all gone!
Doug and I will deeply miss our courageous friend Liz and her warm hugs. My thoughts are with Peter, Scott Jen and their families as we struggle to deal with the loss of Liz.

Dear Peter, Jenny and Scott,
Sending warm wishes and comfort during this time. I am so sorry for loss and hope the days ahead bring fond memories of Liz / your Mom/ Grandma and all the love she shared. Over the past many years it was an honour to be part of Liz’s passion for good health . She was dedicated to living her best life daily , combining the principles of medicine, natural health and activity. Perhaps one of the most important principles to Liz was the love of her family and friends . This was part of everything Liz did making her so authentic and real . Generously she shared her kindness and love with friends and those close to her . Hearing stories of her love of island living we bonded as “ kindred spirits “ sharing the beauty in nature by the water . Over the years Liz and Peter became part of our family by becoming known as “ Cookie’s Toronto Grandparents”. We shared yet another love - our little dog Cookie, who enjoyed several summers with Liz , Pete and family while we were back on PEI . Liz was an inspiration on so many levels , brave, knowledgeable, compassionate and shared much by example. She was a sweet cherished friend who we miss … on behalf of my son Liam and Cookie, thank you for sharing Liz .
Thinking of you ,
Lisa McCabe

Liz will always be a part of my Bayfield life and it is hard to imagine her not being there. Liz was my very first friend. She came to my second birthday party at Pine Lodge and we were friends for the next 74 years.
She was hilariously funny with a rapier wit. We laughed our way through learning to canoe, learning to drive the boats, endless hours swimming and boys! We knew the words to every Ricky Nelson song and sang them endlessly driving up and down the Bay. And then she got her first car! We had some great and possibly not so great new adventures but no matter how much trouble we got into, “Betty”, as my Dad insisted on calling her, could always sweet talk her way around my father and my mother. We managed to grow up!
I remember her bringing her babies to show my mother and how proud she was to show off first Jenny, then Scotty. My mother and Liz traded parenting stories until I finally got into the act. Our kids grew up together and I know mine viewed Liz as an extra aunt. Our sons grew to be very close friends and I know all my kids are as heartbroken as I am at her passing.
She was the best grandmother I know!! She adored her grandkids and I know they adored her back. It was a rare time that she didn’t have a grandchild or two visiting when we came over to her place.
She became a strong woman and made a lovely life for herself. We had such good times visiting with Liz and Peter at their place or ours. I think we all assumed that would go on forever. Then I got her email telling me her diagnosis. That email is still there along with her many emails discussing her journey.
These last few years have been rough. She was determined to be positive and face the challenge. She fought bravely and hard for as long as she could. I loved her and I cannot imagine what summer, what life will be like without her.

I keep remembering things Liz and I did living beside each other in Toronto. We would save our allowance then take the bus downtown to Trinity Square to our favourite jewelry store and buy a pair of pierced earrings. Then later we could drive and discovered the key to Jacks car worked the key to my Dads car. Parents at the cottage we had wheels, and the odd party. I will never forget my first visit to the cottage. Liz tells me don’t worry if a rattle snake bites you they have the antibiotic at the general store. Next I’m trying to help and do the dishes and Dorothy says Liz you wash Wendy is too messy. We moved to the east coast and lost contact until about 6 years ago when Liz contacted me. We had a great lunch with her and Peter and after that unfortunately all dates to meet just didn’t work. She was a great Lady lots of fun. My condolences to the family. Wendy Fox nee Neilson

Liz was my lifelong friend.
Our friendship commenced as she assiduously recorded my hours hauling lumber and hammering nails for the Dulmage cottage expansion. The best summer job ever, evolved over the decades into dinner invitations, water skiing, countless conversations on her deck, and visits in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.
Liz has been a constant in my life. It warmed my heart to hear her recount daybreak chats with my dad as he paddled past her dock, trolling for pickerel. As a boy, I watched in awe as she raced down the main channel in her beautiful white Grew. Years later, she appeared with a cappuccino while I was waist deep in water, jacking up the boathouse. I still treasure the quilt she made for my sixteenth birthday. When I turned 60, she gifted me dock bumpers so that she could park safely in her designated spot when visiting. She didn’t need the bumpers. No one drives a boat better than Liz.
Liz was the acknowledged custodian of Bayfield history, regaling spellbound cottage guests with stories of a time before. She seemed to know every boat that passed by, and the people in them. If she came across unfamiliar faces, she’d introduce herself, and then introduce them to others. Her remarkable gift for connecting people led me to make many fine friends.
Liz was always welcoming and curious to know what I was doing. She made me feel good about myself. She and Peter embraced my partner Bruce, making him feel comfortable and included. Young people gravitated to Liz. She was generous, inquisitive, and above all, fiercely loyal to her family and friends.
When I last saw Liz on her birthday, she was radiant. In typical fashion, she directed Peter as he took a picture of us. I told her to stop directing and to stick to her own job: stand there and look beautiful. She complied, with a smile.
Though I shall miss Liz, my memory of her is as indelible as the Georgian Bay pines and rocks she loved so much.

Dear Peter and Family,
My wife Linda and I are deeply sorry for the loss of Liz. Although she fought bravely to the end she will be missed by many but we know she is in a place she chose at this point in her life.
My fond memories go back to the 60's when as a teen I worked for my Grandparents at Hangdog Camp in the Summers so I got to know Liz, Rob and their Mother and Father, Dorothy and Jack quite well. Steve Dulmage is my cousin.
I sent her a note about 2 weeks ago and now know why I didn't hear back.
Liz in in a peaceful place so that is the saving grace.
Take care and cherish the memories!
Best regards,
Rod & Linda Davis

We will always hold Liz close to our hearts. What a joy it was to be able to get to know her, and all of you (her wonderful family), over the past recent years. Our daughter, Jillian, certainly holds a very special place in her heart for Liz, as did our entire family. Our summers at Bayfield will never be the same. We will miss our visits with Liz so much and will never forget her boisterous and spirited personality. She truly was a special human. Our prayers are with you all. Sending love and support from Ohio. In Sympathy, The Plavcan Family (of Moyer Island) Jeannine, Joe, Jacob, Jillian
