Ernst Moser posted a condolence

Dear Susan, Dennis and Ron,
Ernie and I went back many decades. We met first in the ’60s, and we have been friends ever since.
When we (Peter Siegenthaler) and I (Ernst Moser) came to Canada in the ’60s, we spent our initial year in Canada at Ernie’s parent’s place in Niagara On The Lake.
Through his parents, I got to know Ernie and Kathi and the three of you when you were still toddlers.
Over the years, I had the opportunity to visit Ernie and Kathi several times at their home on Leaside.
Every visit was capped with Ernie’s homemade wine, which he stoically declared to improve store-bought wine.
Ernie and I had common hobbies such as golf and curling. Although we only played a couple of golf and never had the opportunity to curl together.
We also had a good time at his favourite Restaurants such as the Asian diner and the Hot House.
I will miss Ernie very much. I wish you and your families all the Best.
Ernie Moser

Ernie is the father of my lifelong best friend. It seems strange to be bidding him a final farewell — he and his wife, Kathi, have been constants throughout my life, and visits to Leacrest Road a wonderful tradition. I have many fond memories of Ernie, often involving a meal, some homemade wine, tours of the garden, and conversations about the latest newspaper headlines. I will miss his usual greeting, “Ach du lieber!” as he cracked open the front door to welcome me in. RIP, Ernie so

Thank you for this, Sandy, and for being such a faithful visitor to my parents in their recent, more difficult years. It was a comfort for me to know that you were there, sharing a glass of wine with them, reminiscing about our younger days - they both always enjoyed your visits.

Ernie and Kathi were the first neighbours to welcome us to Leacrest Road with our two-year-old daughter and infant daughter. Their friendly and genuine welcome let us know instantly that we had made the right move. Ernie shared some of his jewelry designs with us and we marveled at the furniture he had made for their home. He truly was a multi-dimensional artist. He loved his garden and was willing to share his passion with rookie gardeners introducing us to new foods like kale and quince. Kale from the store, never matched Ernie’s. We always were aware of the bond between he and Kathi, and especially when we could visit while Kathi was ill, but still at home. He was so protective and loving and felt guilty that he could not take care of her every need. When Kathi passed away, Ernie truly lost a part of himself. We were the lucky ones who got to visit our neighbour and give back a taste of the kindness he had given us as that new young family moving onto the street. He was rough around the edges, but soft on the inside. YOU JUST HAD TO GET TO KNOW HIM.
With sympathy and love,
Norm and Joan Sparrey

Thank you for these heartfelt comments, Norm and Joan, you have been truly outstanding neighbours and friends to my father in the past few years. I know how much he appreciated your company over a glass of wine or a cup of coffee - even if he didn't always show it in the same way most people would. As you say, you just had to know him well to understand him. Susan

Ernie loved racing. He was an avid F1 follower and would discuss the results of each race. Although I couldn't tempt him to join in the game, he enthusiastically supported my Thoroughbred racing career. He was lost without Kathi, and we can imagine they are reunited for all time. Condolences to the family. Jude Bracewell and Ian Findlay

Mr. and Mrs. Mutti were the best neighbours our parents, Robert and Ruth Bell, ever had. On their 50th wedding anniversary Ernie made a gold wedding band that Mother gave to Dad. We do not have children of our own, so when our best friends’ son was married a number of years ago we offered it to him. He was thrilled. And Judith and I cherish rings Ernie made for us more than 30 years ago - hers a diamond and mine a ruby, set in gold.
Our family often had “a barbecue” on the patio. Ernie always made it special by coming through the hedge with a bottle of his homemade wine.
Leacrest Road was blessed when Ernie and Kathi chose to make their home there.

Thank you so much, Joan and Judith, for writing this tribute to my parents. Those early years on Leacrest Road were very special to both of them, not only because they had their own home for the first time, but also because they found the sense of community among their neighbours that they had grown up with in their home villages in Switzerland. Your family was very much a part of that. With all best wishes for the New Year, Susan

Liebe Mutti Familie
R.I.P Aschi
In stillem Gedenken
