Obituary of John Cameron Egan Jr.

 

On December 9, 2021 at 84 years of age, John passed away at Tiffin Chartwell in Georgian Bay. Until his last days he was supported by his loving wife, Patricia Anne Egan (née Labine) and surrounded by his family.

 

Loving father of Barbara M. Egan and John C. Egan, III (Jay) and father-in-law to Olga Lapshina-Egan. Proud grandfather to Alexandra S. Egan, John C. Egan IV (Jake),  Jaime N. Egan, Elizaveta Lapshina and Ekaterina Lapshina.  Son of the late John C. Egan, Sr. (Jack) and Simone M. Poupore of Toronto. John is survived by his brothers, Dennis (DJ) and Kerry Egan.

 

A graduate of St. Michael’s College and Western University economics in 1958, John was a founding member of the Ontario Hostelry Institute, Ontario Finest Inns, Ontario Place and The Toronto Zoo.

 

His passion and legacy was Hospitality & Tourism, and he spent his life building and creating landmark properties including Maloney’s Studios, Conroy Hotel, Edelweiss and Maloney’s 2 at Ontario Place, ERL’s Hospitality, Hydro Place and Eganridge Inn and Spa in Bobcaygeon.

 

He lived a wonderful and successful life, touching those around him with his caring and genuine interest in others and their families.

 

Many thanks to his terrific caregivers, Marline and Janet, while home, and to Pam and her crew at Tiffin.

 

Tiffin Chartwell Memory care staff referred to John and Patty as “John and Yoko” as their bond and attachment was infectious. In one of his last discussions with Tiffin staff, John emphasized the importance of family in one’s life!

 

Due to rising Covid cases, a private family memorial service will be held in the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue.  

 

The family is planning to hold a “Celebration of Life Memorial” in the summer of 2022 in an open space.
