Obituary of Gloria Linda Lamb

GLORIA LINDA LAMB

On Monday, August 2, 2021, Gloria passed away peacefully after a long and heroic battle with cancer. 

She left this world as she lived it, surrounded by family and dear friends. She is survived by her husband Doug; her sisters Genevieve and Janet, and sister-in-law Carla; her brother Brian; her step-sisters Sherry and Laurie; her children Erik and Ashley; her step-sons David, Geoffrey, and Sean; her daughters-in-law Joanna, Lisa, Maggie, and Stephanie; her grandchildren Keenan, Tristan, Teddy, Charlie, Olivia, Halle, Simone, and Jacob; step-grandchildren Taylor, Shalayne, Caelen, and Liam; and her many cousins, family members, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Bridget Hall, her brother Ken Hall, and her step-sister Suzanne Mater.

Gloria grew up in Scarborough, surrounded by the loving, and fun-loving Hall family, and the extended Hogan family. Throughout her life, her parents, siblings, and extended family were her support and her joy. She worked briefly at Manulife before marrying and having two children. She was the best of mothers. There were always homemade cookies in the oven and kind words when there were tears. Once Erik and Ashley were old enough, she began to work for the Toronto Catholic District School Board and found a new way to bring her compassionate spirit to others. Gloria often said that one of her proudest achievements was to help children understand their differences, and learn to embrace one another, regardless of special challenges. She loved being part of the community at St. Henry’s, St. Kevin’s, and St. Sylvester’s, and gathered life-long friends with her gift for listening, her kind encouragement, and her legendary baking skills.

Gloria believed people are gifts in life, and she was gifted with many special relationships in her life. One of the most important moments in her life was the day she met Doug Lamb. They married, blending two families together for 29 years of happiness, love and laughter, especially at the cottage on Balsam Lake. She and her children were welcomed into the Lamb family and became part of family traditions, just as Doug and his children became part of Hall and Hogan family traditions.

Gloria’s heart also embraced relationships with a huge number of incredibly special friends, most importantly Denise Currie, her long-standing best friend and confidante, who was with Gloria throughout her journey with cancer, and was a steadfast support in Gloria’s final days.  

Gloria made the world brighter her whole life, with her compassion for others, her selflessness, and her ultimate kindness. She loved unconditionally, and faced every day of her journey with cancer with grace and determination, always concerned more about her family and friends than herself. She was a model of how to be a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a teacher, and a friend.
