Obituary of David Gregory Burns
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David at age 65 on June 6, 2021 in Toronto with his partner by his side. David was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and was predeceased by his parents Edmund and Marion Burns. He is survived by his partner Cal Marcoux, his sister Joanne Lancaster, his nephews Ryan and Matthew Lancaster, and best friend Nancy Horsman.
David recently retired from Scotiabank, where he spent most of his career.
He leaves behind many friends and colleagues who are absolutely devastated by his loss.
David will always be known for his quick smile, his sparkling eyes, and his sharp wit. He appreciated irony like no other and those who knew him understood that he suffered neither fools nor bad drivers gladly.
David’s life was cut short by glioblastoma – a brain tumour diagnosed and operated on just over a year ago. Even with a devastating diagnosis, he always maintained a positive outlook and spent his remaining months hanging out with friends and family, having wine on the patio, and going for long walks along the Leslie Street Spit and elsewhere.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Gerry and Nancy Pencer Brain Tumour Centre at Princess Margaret Hospital, Home and Community Care Toronto Central, and the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care for the amazing care and support they provided. In particular the home care PSWs, nurses and Dr. Joshua Wales.
A celebration of David’s life will be scheduled at a future date. To honour David’s memory, please consider a donation to Princess Margaret Hospital, the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, or a charity of your choice.
