Anne Moore

Obituary of Anne Moore

Mom died peacefully March 25, 2021 in Providence Health Palliative Care, Toronto from complications related to advanced Parkinson’s disease. She is survived by her loving son Paul James Moore, daughter Laura Moore-Dempsey, grandchildren Erin Moore-Dempsey (Grant Streeter), Kiley Moore-Dempsey (Paul Coyle) and great-grandchildren Emily and Ryan Streeter, as well as her brother Dan O`Shea (Pat) and cousin Maureen Blaney. She was predeceased by daughter Mary Moore, sister Thelma Cummings, son-in-law Gerry Dempsey and former husband Paul Joseph Moore.

Born in North Bay as Mary Theresa Ann O’Shea, Mom was known as Ann since birth. Always an independent person, Mom changed the spelling of her name to Anne with an ‘e’ while attending St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, North Bay. She worked as a nurse in Sudbury and Vancouver. Mom became an avid volunteer with the Junior League in Winnipeg where she entered the world of fundraising. She raised $millions for Arts and Social Service organizations. She was one of Canada’s first Certified Fundraising Executives and was a mentor to many. She led the ethical standards of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and was honoured in 2004 with a Lifetime AFP Achievement Award. She proudly worked until age 75.

We will remember Mom’s laughter and her love of hosting parties for her many dear friends. Her interests included attending live theatre, opera, playing bridge, and reading. At the family home in Hoggs Hollow, in addition to entertaining, Mom was happiest gardening and watching her granddaughters swim. Spending time at Lake of the Woods and, in recent years, at son Paul’s cottage in Haliburton also gave her great joy.

Although we know Mom would prefer an Irish Wake to be held in her honour this weekend, that is not to be. In lieu, tell someone a funny story with a drink in hand and laugh out loud in her memory!

We are grateful for the numerous home support caregivers who assisted her over the years, especially Marjorie, Jennifer and Salaam, special thanks to Adriana, and to the palliative staff for their compassion in her final weeks.
