I had the privilege of meeting Isobel as a fellow member of CLUB 48, a retired teachers group founded in 1948, along with the late Robert Martin, and Maureen Timmons, these three and others having enjoyed a special summer in southern France. She was also an early colleague of yet another history/geography teacher in Etobicoke, my good friend, Richard Roberts, who has also come to appreciate CLUB 48.

Condolences to Isobel's family. I have very happy memories of time spent in la Côte d;Azur with Isobel and several other retired teachers. She was most intrepid and willing to head off and discover out of the way places. She was always in good humour and a pleasure to be with. Maureen Timmons

My sincere condolences to Isobel Ganton’s family and friends. She was a wonderful person, teacher, and role model. I was very fortunate to have had “Miss Ganton”—as we then called her—as one of my history teachers at Royal York Collegiate Institute in the late 1960s. She made history truly come alive, showing slides and sharing stories from her many travels. She also ran the Travel Club at the school, which helped inspire my own desire to travel—and to appreciate the increasing diversity of Toronto. She even graciously hosted a party for us, her students, at her apartment. I met her again a few years later when she was furthering her studies of Geography at the University of Toronto. She exemplified what it meant to be a “lifelong learner.” She was devoted to her students and to teaching. She will be greatly missed. Catherine A. Gibson
