Obituary of David Matthew Joyce
David Matthew Joyce
November 12, 1989 – September 16, 2020
David was born in Toronto to James Joyce and Linda Adams.
He was most at home when immersed in technology, whether it be a problem at work or discovering the latest security techniques. Largely self-taught from an early age, in the world of technology, David had found his niche. During the pandemic, he put his technical skills to use, making PPE for a local hospital and others in the community.
David will be remembered for his strong opinions, deep sense of right and wrong, and his generosity towards his friends and others in need. He found joy in supporting the Raptors, games nights with friends, trips to the comedy club, and planning his next adventure. He enjoyed long conversations with friends, and was particularly close to his grandmother, whom he spoke with weekly until her death in 2016.
David saw the world differently than most and was often out of sync with those around him. Although he often appeared happy, he struggled with his mental health for many years. After his accident in September 2019, he also struggled with physical pain and reduced mobility.
David will be fondly remembered by his parents, James and Linda, his sister, Katherine (Megan), his uncle Bill (Joy) and his friends and co-workers.
We want to thank the many people who supported David on his path towards recovery after his accident in September 2019, including his good friend Arthur, and the teams at Sunnybrook, SWCG, Thomson Rogers, and FunctionAbility. With their help, we were able to spend more time with David during his final year.
David, your family, and your friends miss you so much.
