Ian was a friend, I smile when I think of him. His is a real loss, we are poorer for his absence, but what a store of memories he left, Gin and Tonics in a Cricket Sweater on a roof in Toronto, Walking and people-watching in New York, Cheering on the Irish Rugby team in Chicago, times spend in good fun and great company , discussing the state of the world, Books, Music, Film, Food, Politics, he was at home in all realms, he was curious, above all, he was Kind.
He had no meanness, no agenda, only warmth and understanding, an acute sense of fairness and above all, a Sense of Humor. You were right Ian they are all "Bloody Nazis" we will keep an eye on them for you.
Morag, fond thoughts to you, you were half of a tremendous duo,
I hope to see you soon
Donal

It's hard to think that you've left us.
Morag, my sympathy and heart pours out to you. Ian was a great pal and a true friend. I will miss greatly his humour, his personality, his character, his friendship and all the great times we had over the years, frequently ending up in Pj O'b for a hard earned cleansing beer or two. I don't think I have ever met anybody with such a caring, warm and genuine interest in others. He was truly unique and had an incredible zest for life. I will think back on very fond memories of a wonderful man. Ian may not be with us physically but he will always be with us in spirit.
Safe travels, until we meet again in the big bar upstairs my friend.

A lovely man who always made you feel you were the most interesting person he had ever met. It seemed he and Morag had forged a good life together, and I extend my sympathies to her for her loss. Fortunately she is made of stern Scottish stuff.

So very sorry to hear this sad news.
The first time I met Ian, was back in the 90's on one of his trips north to Sudbury with his then partner and my good friend Heather. I had never met anybody with such a presence! I was taken with his charming personality, boisterous sense of humour and his love of life.
I always looked forward to their visits to the north as we always got to have the pleasure of hearing more of Ian's tales over wings and a beer.
My condolences to Morag, Ian's family, Heather Watts-Taylor, and to Dotti and Guy Stevenson on this huge loss.
Rest in peace, Ian.

Ian was a larger than life, outgoing, funny, and just a wonderful person to be around. The photo was taken earlier this summer on our roof garden. Carol and I spent many delightful evenings with Ian and Morag. Summers will simply not be the same without him. He will be deeply missed by his many friends.

Although Ian was a distant (was it 2nd, or 3rd? it didnt matter) cousin and thogh he was also distant from me in location, it was always a highlight of my usually annual trips to Toronto when I caught up with him. There was always much laughter, conversations about politics and the economy, and mining from our respective memories of bits of pieces of family history. We usually drove out to Scarborough to see Glen, my Scots uncle and Ian's relation too....and going with Ian rather than alone always added to the occasion. Ian had a generous spirit; he had no hesitation in welcoming my son when he was in Toronto. Ian had a huge enthusiasm and the 'carpe diem' attitude ; to him it seemed each day was a gift and no day was taken for granted. So, my deep condolences to you, Morag, and to other closer friends and family than me. He touched me with his positvity and love of life such that, though I only saw Ian once a year, I am feeling deeply his all-too-early departure...Robin Kearns, Auckland, NZ.

Although I only heard about Ian's sense of humour and spirit through Lindsey, it is very sad that he has been taken at such a young age. I send Morag and the family my deepest condolences. It is said our maker takes the 'good' ones sometimes early. Thinking of you at this difficult time. Melodee Matthews (a friend of Lindsey's).
