Obituary of Patrick Mochan

Patrick Mochan July 12, 1943 - January 1, 2020 Dearest Patrick/Dad, We thank you for our wonderful lives together. All of the love, laughs and magic. The dedication, pride and love you hold for our family is unmatched and will continue to shine brightly through our souls and hearts. Patrick was born July 12, 1943 in Clyde Bank, Scotland. An only child, he spent most of his childhood exploring the banks of the River Clyde; fishing and riding his bike with his mates up the Highlands. With a thirst for adventure he left his homeland when he was 21 years old arriving in Kitchener, Ontario. He earnestly began to lay his Canadian foundation once he settled in Toronto, where he quickly connected with fellow countrymen by joining the Toronto Scottish Rugby Club. There he found friendships, on and off the rugby field, that have lasted a lifetime. As fate would have it, Patrick would travel over 5000km only to fall in love with Linda, a fellow proud Scot, lovingly marrying in 1981. He often told his daughters, Lindsay & Alanna, that their marriage was the best day of his life, second only to their own births! A selfless, hardworking provider for our family, he worked professionally as a Tool and Die Maker at various companies, retiring in 2008 at Magna International. A voracious reader and dexterous lateral thinker, he rarely met a crossword he didn’t complete; never one to be bested by a newspaper trivia or jumble. He surely played a large part in his girls finding joy in the English language. Lover of a good scotch, good joke, good music, and a good debate. Through his daughters, Patrick gained 2 son-in-laws in Andy & Rick, valuing them both as a special mix of friend and family. He considered himself blessed to become Granda in 2019 to his Grandson Logan and Granddaughter Lavender. The outpouring of love since Patrick’s passing after bravely fighting his COPD has been heartening for the family and speaks to his kindness towards those with whom he crossed paths. Loving husband, proud father, smitten Granda, straight-shooting friend, good neighbour, kind gentleman, and eternal Scotsman. We love you. We miss you. You will always be with us.
