Wednesday, March 13, 2019
On behalf of the Auxiliary officers of the Toronto Police Service and the Community Partnerships & Engagement Unit (TPS), please accept our heartfelt condolences on the passing of your mother and grandmother, Gail Elizabeth Carnegie.
We want your family to know that we will always remember the legacy left by Gail's husband, Deputy Chief James Gordon Carnegie. We take this opportunity to express our deep appreciation of Deputy Chief Carnegie’s extraordinary public service (over four decades of leadership) and his wife, Gail’s constant support of his passion to help his fellow citizens.
As Abraham Lincoln once said, "...And in the end, it is not the years in your life that counts; it's the life in your years." May you take comfort in the joyful memories that Gail brought to your lives.
In sympathy,
Toronto Police Auxiliary officers and the
Toronto Police Community Partnerships & Engagement Unit

Our sympathies to Anne, Martha and Christopher. We shared a driveway on St Clements Ave through the 60’s, as well as many good times. Your parents were wonderful friends and neighbours. Your Mom was fun, upbeat and life affirming. Hope that positive memories of her will bring comfort to you all.
Sincerely,
Susan Yeigh Hollyman & Elizabeth Yeigh Reddy

Dear Anne, Martha, and Chris,
I found your mother's obituary in the G&M last weekend and was both surprised and saddened. My deepest condolences for your loss. Gail was so recently in my thoughts as I was going to ask Joan Jarvis if she had a current address for your mum. I have been sending Christmas cards on behalf of my mum now for a few years and Christmas 2017 my card to Gail was returned to sender. In 2014 my mum's dementia progressed to the point where she could no longer care for herself and Jim and I assisted her move to Chartwell's "Memory Living" wing in Collingwood. Looking back it is apparent that her dementia had been in progress for quite some time. Not knowing if there were any specific events I apologize on behalf of my mum for what might have been unreasonable behaviour on her part towards you or your mum.
My eternal image of Gail is that of laughter and smiles. She will live on in you and your children.
Sincerely,
Lara

Dear Martha, Ann and Chris
I was so sad to hear about your Mom and to be honest I still can't believe it. She was such a positive, sparkly and upbeat lady with such a passion for everything in life. We shared so many good times on St Clements --so many laughs. She was always one for adventure and willing to try something new . She spoke often of her travels and what great times she had with you Martha. She called before Christmas this year to say that because of the strike she wasn't sending cards. I wasn't home to take the call (something I regret) but Len spoke to her and reported that she sounded great and very happy. She was a kind and loving person and I will miss her. Please accept my deepest sympathy. Thinking of you all,
Starr

We send our deepest condolences to the Carnegie family on the loss of your wonderful Mother Gail. We were childhood friends from days long gone at Forest Hill South Prep and kept in touch over the years via the phone. We so enjoyed both your parents at Chamber functions and adored your Mom’ s vitality, enthusiasms and love of adventures. She never complained and was just a great person. I know you shall miss her dearly and we will, always have fond memories of her also.

My husband and I are so very sorry to hear of Gail’s passing. She was so welcoming to my mum (Diana Whyte) when we had our first meal at The Claremont on moving day. Gail made a point of coming over to our table to say hello and introduce herself. She was delightful! All of us so enjoyed running into her or having her drop by the dinner table for a short chat. We will miss her too!
Our sincere condolences to you all.
