Obituary of Peter Joseph Barnicke

PETER JOSEPH BARNICKE

 

Peter Joseph Barnicke K.C.S.J. born October 4, 1950 - passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018 at Mount Sinai Hospital surrounded by his family.  Born in Toronto, Peter was the eldest son of Joseph and Justina Barnicke.  He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Victoria (nee Newlands), he was the proud father of Michael (Shannon MacDonald), Libby (Patrick Dolan), Tori (Greg Fleming) and JJ.

 

Papa was a devoted grandfather to five grandchildren Georgia, Adelaide, Alexandra, Taylor and Connor.  Loving brother to Paul (Jeanine), predeceased by Anne, Carroll (Richard) and Andrew (Lara).

 

A distinguished leader in the commercial real estate industry, Peter spent more than 45 years dedicated to serving clients and mentoring colleagues, many of whom became friends.  Known for his incredible work ethic, a trait that followed him until his final days.

 

Peter’s summers were spent enjoying quality time with his loving family, whether at the family farm (Everview) or on the shores of Prince Edward Island.

 

Peter happily spent his free time doing outdoor D.I.Y. projects and will forever be remembered for his passion for the outdoors (chopping wood), his love for telling a good joke, dancing skills, and his love of family and life.

 

He was an extraordinary human being whose qualities of kindness and generosity uplifted and inspired all who knew him.  Peter was devoted to his community through the many boards he served on St. Joseph’s Hospital, Covenant House, Catholic Children’s Aid Society and The National Club.

 

The Barnicke Family would like to thank and acknowledge the expert care which Peter received from Dr. Jang and Dr. Ringash at PMH and Dr. Bernik and the nurses (Kristin, Cynthia) at the ICU at Mount Sinai Hospital.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests acts of kindness towards others or a donation be made to St. Joseph’s Health Centre Foundation (30 The Queensway, Toronto, Ontario, M6R 1B5).  The visitation will take place at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Monday, November 26th from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, November 27th from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.  The funeral service will be held at Our Lady Perpetual Help Church (78 Clifton Road Toronto) on Wednesday, November 28th at 10:00 a.m.
