The family of Ray Kohne, brother to Calvin, would like to express their deepest sympathy in the loss of Uncle Calvin. Calvin lived with Mom and Dad when they first got married in 1947 when Calvin was just 12 years old. Our family remembers all the stories about Uncle Calvin and his work as a fireman and working in the movie business. Uncle Calvin came to visit us over the years in Avonmore and Cornwall and we have special memories of those times as well. The last time we saw Uncle Calvin was at Mom's funeral in July 2009.
Thinking of all of our cousins and their families at this sad time.

My sincere concolences to all of Cal's family. It is a great and sad loss to everyone that ever had the pleasure to know him. I have wonderful memories of Cal sharing his wisdom during the long long days on set that I will always cherish.
May the outpouring of love give you strength at this time.

My heart and prayers go out to the Kohne family. I was very lucky to have met Cal in the crazy industry we work in.
And know had a cocktail or two on the boat or at Bill's.
He will be missed. Gripping in the sky.

I first met Cal in Rosalilia's house in Holguin, Cuba, there he was, cigar in one hand a bottle of Cuban rum in the other. I thought to myself, he looks like another, Ernest Hemingway. Cal was giving instructions, in English to Cuban workers who were renovating Rosalilia's house. They, the workers, only spoke Spanish and had no idea what he was on about, which frustrated Cal. Eventually, the supervisor came in, he did speak English and work resumed. Whenever I visited Holguin I would drop in and see Cal and Rosa,and each time I noticed a remarkable improvement on the house. Cal was quite a character, as they say "one of the old school". Gone but not forgotten,

Michael, Jim, and all Kohne kith and kin ... condolences and commiserations on the passing of the family Patriarch. Michael and Jim you were the grips on the first film I worked on (remember "Death Hunt" with chuckles Bronson?), and I have a story from on one of the few times I worked with the legend on one of his last films, "Bogus". My dealings with Cal were few. His contribution to the Toronto film industry was massive and his technical and practical knowledge was as a teacher straight forward and pertinant.
My condolences to his family and of the techs who will never gain his knowledge.
