Obituary of Rosalyn Charland
Rosalyn Charland
May 11, 1933 - September 5, 2018
Following a lengthy illness, Rosalyn passed away peacefully in her 85th year in the early morning of September 5, 2018 at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto.
Born and raised in Northern Ontario, Rosalyn moved to Toronto five years ago to be closer to her daughters Karen and Nancy Martin, her sisters and extended family.
Rosalyn was a trailblazer very much ahead of her time. She was a pioneer for feminism before it even had a name - a legacy that fills her two strong, independent daughters with immense pride.
With a varied career in administration, sales and public service, Rosalyn was always a staunch supporter of the underdog and went out of her way to look out for the rights of those less fortunate. A voracious reader, Rosalyn also loved to garden, play Scrabble and vacation in the South of France.
She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Karen Martin (Ted Tritchew); Nancy Martin (Donovan Raymond); son Raynald Charland (Marlène Laflamme); grandson Jason Charland; sisters Lorraine Chivers (Mel); Diane Wolkowski; and many aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A reception in Rosalyn's honour will be held Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 2 to 4 pm. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, http://thepmcf.ca/Ways-to-Give/Donate-Now.
