Today, on the anniversary of Kerry Lee’s death, I wish to acknowledge her tragic loss and the impact she has had on those she worked with. Kerry Lee was my colleague. I did not know her well and was away on maternity leave when she died. When I returned from leave, another colleague and I took over her work in the office. I often think of Kerry Lee and am so saddened by her tragic end. I also know that her loss has deeply impacted those who worked most closely with her and many others in the office. I am disappointed that something more official was not done at the time of her passing and that it is too late to correct this. That shortcoming does not change the fact that Kerry Lee is missed and remembered by her colleagues and that her loss is mourned by people here. I extend my deepest sympathy to her family and friends and my support to my colleagues who grieve her loss, especially today. I am planting seven trees in her memory: one each for my colleagues who knew her best and miss her most including Devyani, Diane, Amanda and Susan; one for those in our office who are saddened by her loss; especially those, like her, who struggle with or are impacted by mental health issues; one for her family and friends who no doubt suffer her loss profoundly today and every day; and one for Kerry Lee, may she rest in peace.

I was deeply saddened to hear, just recently, of Kerry-Lee's passing. The news brought back a flood of wonderful childhood memories. In 1973-74, I was a 10 year old in Royal Orchard Public School in Thornhill. Kerry-Lee and I were in Mrs. Morrison's grade 5 class. All year long, she and I were great pals. She was my "Winnie Cooper". My last conversation with Kerry-Lee was on April 3rd, 1977, when she phoned me on my birthday, a year after my family had moved away. While it has been 40+ years, I have never forgotten those wonderful childhood times.

Dear Leone, John and David,
Words can't express how heartbroken I am to hear about the passing of Kerry Lee. Such wonderful memories I have of you all from my time spent with your family: the almost weekly family get-togethers with your massive extended family, countless wonderful weekends spent at Honey Harbour and Magnetewan, late night sauna parties and ice skating in winter on the frozen lakes around Ontario! I am saddened for you all and can only hope that your treasured memories of her will bring you some comfort. From what I hear about her as a mother, I can truly believe she was a warrior. I am with you all in spirit on Saturday as you say your final goodbyes. It is truly a huge loss.

I am so sorry to hear about your mom's passing. You are a special young man, and I sincerely enjoyed teaching and advising you at SAC. I got to know Kerry when she was with the Crown's office in Newmarket a number of years ago. Aside from being incredibly intelligent and well prepared, her kind heartedness and fairness was what I recall the most. I have occasionally run into her over the years and although we were more acquaintances than friends, whenever I saw her downtown as opposed to giving an acknowledging nod as passing by, she took the time to stop and chat for a few minutes about what was going on in Newmarket and life in general which in this day and age is more the exception than the rule. She will be missed. My sympathies to her family for their loss
