Your mother had a remarkable ability to love - she was such a special friend to my mother in her final years. Their shared interest in the National Gallery and art was the foundation but she assisted my mother on her physical and spiritual end of life journey. Taking her to medical appointments or to visit an Anglican priest, sewing outfits for her to hide the mastectomy, baking cakes and custards, phoning her every day.
After Mom died, she became a special fairy godmother to me and my siblings. She sewed a dress for my 21st birthday and when Ted and I were engaged took me to the Room at Simpsons in Toronto to select a going away outfit and my trousseau. She helped me bake a wedding cake for my sister Issie - and the two of us continued that tradition through her various moves in Ottawa, to Gananoque and Kingston.

I was very sorry to hear about your Mom's passing. I have so many memories of you all in Gananoque when I was in and out of your wonderful big house on Tremont Island.
Your Mom had such a wonderful sense of humor and included every one who came and went. She always had great suggestions of things to do and was right in there participating. My Mom and Dad were big fans of hers. We were just talking about meeting you all minus the fathers over at Leek Island swimming at the sandy bay.

I remember Joan and Harry very well from their many visits to my parents' home in Rothwell Heights, Ottawa. They were very good family friends. But I also knew Ian and his cousin Bill McDonald (Joan's nephew), from when we were all at Trinity College in the 1960's. Condolences to all the family for Joan's passing, from me and my wife Helga.

I have very fond memories of Joan's love and laughter at Christmas dinners at the your very cool, very modern house in Ottawa in the 1970s. Joan was so warm and welcoming not only to family but to friends from far away places -- I think the first time I met anyone from India was at your house. Last time I saw Joan was when she visited our house with Pat and gave Duke 'Goodnight Moon'. Such a wonderful aunt. She will be missed.
