Obituary of Joseph Stephen Murphy
JOSEPH MURPHY
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Joseph (Joe) Murphy in Toronto on Friday, July 13, 2018. Beloved husband of Kate Brooks-Murphy. Loving father of Zoe and Sarah. Much-loved son of Bunny and the late Joseph M. Murphy. Much loved son-in-law of Brian and Pamela Brooks. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Yvonne (Owen), Barry, Peter (Kimberley), Stephen (Suzy) and Jane Brooks. Uncle to many nieces and nephews and loving godfather. Remembered also by Josephine Frayne.
Joseph immigrated to Toronto from Dublin, Ireland in 1972 and commenced a very successful career in the Canadian Food Industry. In business as in life, people have always been his focus. A lover of life, bon vivant, he charmed many with his infectious good humour and wit. His tennis club was his second home; very competitive, he was always fair and ready to applaud a great shot. In many ways, he was larger than life. He never bore a grudge and was generous with his heart and his purse. He will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 22nd. A celebration of Joseph’s life will be held for family and friends at the Toronto Lawn Tennis Club, 44 Price Street, at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 24th. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations in his name can be made to The Philpott’s Children Tennis Fund, The Kidney Foundation or the Parkinson Foundation. Condolences, photographs and memories can be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
