Obituary of Joshua Himmelman

JOSHUA RONALD LEE HIMMELMAN

Born on a small farm in Lunenberg County, Nova Scotia, to father Edison G. Himmelman and mother Phyllis M. (Lantz) Himmelman in August, 1955.  He gained a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce Honours from St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  His first career was with Canada Revenue Services.  In 1984 he earned an honours Degree in Education from St. Mary’s University.

In 1984 he moved to Toronto, Ontario to begin teaching at East York Collegiate Institute.  He taught Grade 12 Business and The World of Work (Co-op) for 29 years.  Below is a statement from “Rate My Teacher” that best describes his impact on his students:

Himmelman was an amazing teacher, but his health took a turn for the worse.  True definition of what teaching and being a teacher is all about.  Big guy with a big heart.  He should be remembered for his excellent teaching ability and really connecting with the students.  Didn’t have specific favourites, everyone was cared for equally.  You expect someone of his age to be worn out or miserable.  This wasn’t the case, and his tales of his life were very meaningful.  You made me a better student.  Thank you.

He is the published author of “Live in the Present and Learn Valuable Life Lessons to Improve any Relationship;” an achievement that was on his “bucket list”.
