Obituary of Dr. Lynn Francis William Loach
DR. LYNN FRANCIS WILLIAM LOACH
April 17, 1934 – May 26, 2018
Our Dad died peacefully at home on Saturday, May 26, 2018. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife and best friend Mary Ann (nee Hooey). Dear Dad of Elizabeth, David (Peter), Peter (Traci) and Mary (Jay); and grandfather of Julia, Jack, Cameron, Liam, Madison and Alyssa.
Lynn was born and raised in Toronto where his curious nature led him to spend many days in his youth exploring the Don River. He attended medical school at The University of Toronto, graduating in 1959. It was there that he met Mary Ann, a fellow medical student, in what he has described as “the best thing that ever happened to him.” Lynn had a long career as an internist at The Toronto General Hospital where he was instrumental in establishing the hospital’s first intensive care unit. He was a dedicated clinician who cared deeply for the well-being of his patients. Lynn passed on his love of medicine to many generations of medical students as an Associate Professor of Medicine at U of T.
Lynn’s interests were many and wide-ranging, including stamp collecting, genealogy and the Badminton Club. A lifelong learner, he was an avid reader of all genres, but particularly enjoyed detective fiction and was a member of The Bootmakers Society of Toronto, a Sherlock Holmes club. But his true passion was gardening and he was never happier then when amongst his plants. He often sported a button dahlia on his lapel.
We would like to thank Dad’s caregivers for their kindness and excellent care. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Thursday May 31 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held in The Church of St. Timothy, 100 Old Orchard Grove, Toronto on Friday, June 1st at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in the parish hall.
If so wished, donations may be made to The Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation. Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
