Obituary of Hugh Rogers Lawson

HUGH ROGERS “RODDY” LAWSON

Hugh passed away peacefully, at Sunnybrook Veterans’ Residence on Saturday, April 28, 2018 with his loving wife Carolyn and daughter Andrea by his side.  Predeceased by his parents Hugh H. Lawson and Muriel Lawson (Rogers) and daughter Rosemary, Hugh leaves his daughter Andrea (Martin Morrow) and granddaughter Phoebe; his step-son Chris Litteljohn (Eleanor Proctor) and Chris’ daughter Eve; his brother John; sister Ann Hughson and loving extended family members.

Hugh was born in Halifax and raised in Toronto.  He attended Rosedale Public School and Upper Canada College where he was the recipient of the J. Herbert Mason Medal.  Hugh joined the army in 1943 and attended the Canadian Army Course at the University of Toronto.  In the fall of 1944 he went overseas serving in Holland and Germany.  Upon return Hugh obtained a degree in Engineering and Business from the University of Toronto.

Hugh enjoyed a long and successful career in the investment business, summers with family in Georgian Bay, racing eight-metre boats out of Vancouver, skiing at Whistler and Osler Bluff Ski Club and a good game of tennis.

The family thanks the staff of Sunnybrook for their professionalism and their extraordinary care of Hugh: Dr. David Shergold and the exceptional and compassionate staff of K3E.  We extend a thank-you to Joy, his long-time caregiver, for her attention and kindness to Hugh and to her team.

In lieu of flowers, and if desired, a donation in Hugh’s memory to The Georgian Bay Land Trust (www.gblt.org) or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

A celebration of Hugh’s life will take place at the Estates of Sunnybrook, Vaughan Estate, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12th.  Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
