Obituary of Phyllis Mary McNair

PHYLLIS MARY McNAIR

(nee Pettipiere)

Sadly, on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, Phyllis passed away in her 97th year at The Russell Hill Retirement Residence.  She is predeceased by her husband Robert McNair and her sister Anna Mildred (Mim) Pettipiere Rankin.

She will be very much missed by her daughter Karen and her husband Bob Morgan; her son Jeffrey and his wife Michelle Hovesen.  Beloved Grandma Phyllis to Scott (Nicole), David (Heather), Kerrie (Andrew) and Riley.  Great-grandma to Bodie.

Phyllis lived a very full and active life.  Her early years began on Glenview Avenue, going to school at John Ross Robertson School, Bishop Strachan School and University of Toronto.  Summers were spent at Camp Tanamakoon and later in Port Carling working at the Sea Captain’s Shop.  After raising her family in Etobicoke and Toronto she began working with Robin and Joel at The Grapevine Floral Shop.  Thus began her floral career highlighted by being asked to arrange flowers at 24 Sussex Drive, Ottawa by Margaret Trudeau in honour of Queen Elizabeth.

Most weekends were spent at Thistlestone Farm in Acton, Ontario creating beautiful flower borders and a huge vegetable garden.  Other hobbies included pottery and bridge and being involved in organizations including Warrendale, The Garden Club of Toronto, The Ladies Club, and The Badminton and Racquet Club.

She delighted in the company of her family and all her many friends.  Phyll and Bob travelled extensively and after Bob passed away she took about twenty “last trips ever” with her forever friend Pam Biggs having many wonderful adventures.  She was an amazing lady and will be truly missed.

A sincere thank you to all the staff at The Russell Hill for taking such great care of Mum.  Also thank you to Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care from Mount Sinai Hospital and the health care providers from Local Health Integration Network (CCAC) and United Med Staffing Inc. for being so attentive in the last few weeks.
