Dear Denise, Gabrielle and Samuel,
For almost 20 years - ever since we moved into the neighbourhood - you have all been such a constant part of our lives. We have so many memories of Eric that it's hard to list them all - birthday parties, taking pictures at the kids' T-ball games, BBQs, Earth Hour gatherings, New Year's Eve celebrations, Monday night beers, even just standing in front outside chatting about anything - because Eric really did know something about just about everything. We had that long running joke that Bob waited to take down the Christmas lights, still up long after December, only when Eric finally mentioned it. There was so much laughter, and so many good times. There were so many conversations left to have, but our lives were enriched by knowing someone as wonderfully kind, funny, caring and clever as Eric.
With our love, Bob, Anumpa and Kieran.

Eric Foss made such a strong impression. His kindness and generosity really stood out. We worked together briefly when I was just starting at CBC eight years ago. Always hoped we would work together again. To his family, my deepest symthathy for this terrible loss.

I am heart-broken to hear of Eric's passing. I can only imagine what Denise, Gabrielle, and Samuel must be going through! I am so very sorry for your loss.
Obviously, the world is the worse when anyone passes away. However, it's particularly tragic when someone as great as Eric leaves us. I had an immense amount of respect for him. He was smart, humble, respectful, and helpful. He was an absolute joy to have around. He always had a kind word for me, and could talk to me intelligently about any issue I could raise with him (He invariably knew more than I did about anything I wanted to discuss). While there are many, many fond memories I have of Eric, one in particular sticks out. I was in the process of moving away from Douglas Ave., to Winnipeg, and Eric could sense that I was in need of help. Without hesitation, he volunteered to take time out of a busy weekday to help me. He gave me some great advice about how to disassemble and move some of the larger pieces of furniture. He did this, of course, knowing that I was leaving the area, and that the opportunity would likely not arise for me to repay his kindness. And, he checked in later in the day, to see how things were going.
While I was aware of his struggles with cancer a few years back, I had always hoped that he was in full remission. The world would be in a much, much better state if there were more people like Eric. This makes his passing all the more difficult to take.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers!
Sincerely,
Bruce Curran (Formerly 178 Douglas Ave)

I am so sorry for the early loss of such a dear man. I first knew Eric at CHBray in Ancaster and have included our class photos from 1970/71 inGrades 5 & 6. He was not the tallest in the back row yet, but always big to me. He was a calming influence along the "Bray path" many of us walked without parental or teacher supervision and where skirmishes easily erupt. Eric would be there to calm and joke which I appreciated, as others did. In grade 9, we chose brass instruments to play in music. We played in a brass quintet which may have been only a few years, but made strong and lasting memories of fun and competition for me. Eric calmed the scene again in our janitor room practice area when the dueling first trumpet (Bill Mustos) and first trombone (Jeff Teal) were putting Kim Revill and I through our paces in preparation for upcoming music festival competitions. We girls often laughed while the soon to be lawyers pointed our necessary corrections in tone, notes, and timing to improve. At times things got quite heated. Eric became expert at his Tuba/Sousaphone riffs and solos to lighten the air, which often led us into hysterical much needed laughter. Eric was always easy to catch up with over the years, remembering so much of each of us and challenging our positions in his jovial manner. He was a treasure. I send my condolences on behalf of my children and husband to the two Foss kids, Denise, your families, friends and colleagues. Laura MacKay

In the many years that we have been neighbours, I have always respected and admired Eric. On many occasions we would sit on his front porch or head out for a coffee to commiserate about world events and share stories about our mutual love of photography. Throughout the course of his declining health, Eric remained positive and pragmatic. He was immensely grateful for his friendships and he adored his family. I learned a lot from Eric and I will forever be grateful for the compassion and good will he extended to me. My wonderful memories of Eric -- his positive outlook and support and all that he accomplished -- will forever inhabit my thoughts. Thank you for that, Eric. Peace.

Dear Denise, Gabrielle and Samuel,
Eric was a wonderful neighbour and friend. He will be missed at Earth hour celebrations, New Year’s get-togethers, Monday night beer, conversations on the front porch over cocktails or coffee, and food sharing over the back fence. He will be remembered fondly for his fantastic stories of travels with CBC, his stories about everything, chasing down errant wedge shots in the backyard and, of course, his never-ending devotion to his front yard hedge. No matter what was going on, he would have us all in stitches with his witty sense of humour. There will always be huge smiles on our faces every time we think of him.
With love always,
Dave, Jen, Miranda and Malcolm

I am beyond sad . I respected and admired Eric and very much enjoyed working with him on the fifth estate. My fondest memory is being on a shoot with him and sharing a meal. He was beaming. I said: Eric are you going to be a father? He was blown by my psychic powers. It was a great and happy day. This is a profoundly sad one. Eric Foss was a force and he will be missed.

Here is Eric in action on the beach in Bayfield when the neighbours came to my cottage in October 2016. Unfortunately Denise had to work and was unable to join us. It was a fun time, made more memorable since it snowed that evening and the community alarm went off 4 times throughout the night. Eric, thank you for your smile and laughter and great conversations - we miss you! Denise, Sam and Gabrielle, my heart is with you.

I’ll never forget going to the chateau lake Louise dining room with Eric and his mom Pat. I have many of fond memories with him including all our great times at deer lodge and our trip to San Onofre beach. I tell my daughter about them often. I feel blessed to have known him and am again so very sorry for your loss. Myself and my family will be thinking about all of you.

My thoughts are worth your family. As a CBC producer, I went on many a shoot with Eric. He was a consummate gentleman and of course, professional. And when I passed him in the halls at work, he would always graciously take the time to ask me how I was, inquire about my life. He will be greatly missed here at CBC. Carrie Schipper

Denise, so very sad to hear about Eric. Even though I hadn't seen Eric for some years, I grew up with him from the age of 6, and he was one of the kindest, funniest, and smartest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He just had a way of making you feel like you mattered and I'm so sad that he is no longer with us. My sincerest condolences to you and your family.

Please let me add to the outpouring. I worked with Eric for five years, and was his producing partner on "Beyond Words". Like so many others, I am absolutely gutted by losing Eric unfathomably too soon. Yet I'm so proud and so fortunate to have known him as I did. Eric: you were, and for all of us still are -- a practical visionary. We are lessened by this loss. We are better versions of ourselves for knowing you.
