Hi Anne
My deepest condolences for the loss of such a happy and vivacious mother and grand-mother (and Aunt). Dave, Cath, Maureen and I have very fond memories of Mona.
I do not have your latest email address and could not find you or John on Facebook or via Google. I was writing to say that Cyril died earlier in the week at 93 years - he lived at home (in Poole, Dorset) till the end. Cath has arranged the funeral for Monday 12 March and I can forward details if you wish once I know your email address.
I will be visiting Toronto in early June
Sincerely
Jim Piper

I was so sad to hear of Mona’s passing. What a wonderful presence to have had in our lives as children and young adults. I remember her warmth, not only as a crossing guard, but as an enthusiastic ‘Soccer Mom’ - back in the days when I'm sure the term hadn’t even been invented. How lucky was I to grow up and play soccer with John with his Mom always on the sidelines rooting us on! Those were the days! She was a huge influence in my younger years and I will always feel fortunate for that. My heart goes out to John and Ann and all the Piper family. The world was a kinder place with her in it.

To all of Mona's wonderful and strong family. Matthew, myself and the kids have been so blessed to have Mona in our lives. We live across the street from Mona and it was our honor to be one of the few who she could count on in the neighborhood for anything! When lifeline called we were there, when work needed to be done we were there! We miss hear a great deal! Again if anything is needed please feel free to reach out to us. Mona was such a strong but kind, and loving person! Mona spoke up for what was right but what set her apart from others is she followed through with what she said! What a great example she was. She will live forever in your hearts and memories! God Bless each of you! Again it was an honor!

So very sorry for your loss. The memories of growing up through the 60's and early 70's in Toronto and attending Maurice Cody are some of the best memories I have. Your family and our similar connections through scouting and just our mums being friends provided lots of laughs and fun times. Your mum's great attitude and smile will forever live on in those she touched, including me. She will remain forever in your hearts. Brenda

It was with great sadness that we learned of Mona Piper’s passing on January 31st, 2018. Mona has been an icon of our community for decades. She was Toronto’s longest-serving crossing guard, keeping our children safe for 43 years in the Mt. Pleasant-Davisville neighbourhood.
Last year, when I asked constituents to submit their nominees for our Outstanding Neighbour Award, Mona was the first person nominated. In fact, we ended up receiving another four separate nominations for Mona! Her friendly face will be sorely missed; her caring nature and service to our neighbourhood will always be remembered and appreciated.

WE WISH TO OFFER OUR MOST SINCERE AND HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES TO THE IMMEDIATE FAMILY, ALL OTHER RELATIVES, PERSONAL ASSOCIATES AND LIFELONG FRIENDS UPON THE DEPARTURE FROM THE SCENE OF MONA PIPER ...
OVER TIME BOTH MY WIFE AND MYSELF SPOKE WITH MONA A NUMBER OF TIMES IN PASSING THAT CLEVELAND AND MILLWOOD INTERSECTION NEAR OUR HOME ON DAVISVILLE ...
SHE WAS A MOST FRIENDLY, OUTGOING, PLEASANT PERSON, ALWAYS SMILING AND I LOVED THAT SHE WANTED TO CROSS A 60 YEAR OLD MAN AS MYSELF AT THAT TIME AS WELL, 10 YEARS AGO NOW, AS BEING SO FANTASTIC WITH ALL OUR LOCAL CHILDREN OF ALL AGES WHO TRULY LOVED HER AS WE SHALL NEVER KNOW, JUST LIKE THEIR OWN MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER ...
SIMPLY TREMENDOUS TO SEE NEWS OF THIS MEMORIAL IN THE PLAYGROUND IN HER NAME AND WE SHALL ALL HOPE THERE WOULD BE A SUITABLE PLAQUE OR NICE DISPLAY AS TO HER LIFE ...
MONA ACCOMPLISHED A MARVELOUS THING, ALWAYS EXTREMELY WELL DONE, FOR THESE LAST 43 CONTINUOUS YEARS WHERE SHE IS GOING TO BE TERRIBLY MISSED ...
REMEMBRANCE.

I'm very sorry to hear of Mona Piper's passing. I remember her from my days at Maurice Cody in the 1960s, before she was a crossing guard. I remember her primarily as the mother of my class-mate Ann. She attended events at the school, and supported Ann in activities such as learning to play the piano. Condolences to the family.

We are so very sad to hear about Mona. We first met her when our son started JK at Cody 17 years ago. She would always say smilingly to Ian, “Give me some of that energy Ian. Blow it into my hands.” Her love for the children was so apparent and heart-felt. I started working at Cody several years ago and Mona crossed me hundreds of times. My husband Evan taught Ben, Mona’s grandson at Hodgson and had a wonderful relationship with him. We will miss her very much. What a wonderful and kind person she was.
With much love and sympathy to all of you!!

I am so sorry to hear of Mona's passing. Mona was a cheerful and careful crossing guard in my neighbourhood (I live just north of her at Cleveland and Manor), and we all just assumed she would go on forever. We moved into our house in 1984 and Mona was already a fixture at her corner at Millwood and Cleveland; an important part of the community. People noticed if she was not there. I remember after she was acknowledged at a ceremony by TPS for her length of service we called out our congratulations while she was on duty - but she was having none of it! Suspect she didn't want the fuss. A modest woman, loved by the kids and parents and everyone really. Thank you Mona for keeping many generations of North Toronto children safe over 44 years. You deserve your rest.
