Obituary of Atsuko Kamitakahara

Atsuko Kamitakahara

July 19, 1942 – Sept. 21, 2017

With sadness, we announce the passing of Atsuko Kamitakahara on Thursday, September 21, 2017.  Atsuko was born in Vancouver, BC to Eizo and Fumi (Yamauchi) Kamitakahara.  There were six children in the family:  Walter, Shuko (deceased), Kyoko (deceased), Ikuko, Atsuko, and Ernest.  During World War II, she was interned with her family in Slocan (Bayfarm), BC.  The family then moved to Toronto in 1945.  Atsuko completed her Bachelor (Honours) in History and was also an accomplished athlete.  She won a Woodrow Wilson scholarship and went on to do graduate studies at Yale University.  She is missed by her sister Ikuko and brothers Walter and Ernest.  Cremation and interment will be private.
