To Nancy's family:
Please accept my condolences at the loss of your wife and mother, Nancy. Nancy and I are exactly the same age and, as a result, were in the same grade and the same classroom throughout all our school years in Hawkesbury. Because I lived "in the country" (translation - on a farm), I needed a "stop-over" between school's end and the beginning of any after-school activities to which I could belong. As a result, I was welcomed often (sometimes every week) into her parents' home for supper before walking to the activity with Nancy.
One of our high school "highlights" was being chosen to participate in the bilingual, four-member, debating team for Hawkesbury District High School during our Grade 12 year. While debating in both official languages, we competed against (and lost to) prestigious schools in Ottawa. Unfortunately, the building of the Carillon Dam separated us and Nancy and I lost track of each other at the end of Grade 12.
Reading the announcement on-line in The Review brought back many memories. I am so sorry for your loss.
Shirley

Dear David Partridge with daughters: Emily, Tobie and their families
I am very sorry for the loss of your wife and mother, Nancy Partridge. Please accept my deep condolences.
I will always remember my first meeting with her as a member of the Anglican Church of St. Paul in Bloor Street. Nancy was a very charming lady with a rare mix of intelligence and kindness. She was a gem of a person who always showed honesty and was filled with great love and happiness.
I loved her homemade eggs and tuna sandwiches that she used to prepare for rehearsals and choir parties. Once after a rehearsal on my way home on the TTC a bystander asked me if I was a feminist. I said, "No," I just attended the meeting where Nancy prepared the sandwiches.
Although Nancy was a nurse helping the most vulnerable I always thought she was a psychologist. What drew my attention was her eloquence with clear pronunciation, proper enunciation and attentive listening.
To me, Nancy embodies the successful integration of psychology and Christianity, which has always been my passion. Her presence in the church until the last days of her life was living proof of the Christian victory over Secular therapeutic models.
Nancy was a person of integrity who valued quality. As a Chancel Guild, everything was prepared just what the doctor ordered so also I was considering taking part in the Holy Communion. I never heard any complaints from the congregation about her job!
When I talked to Nancy I always felt that she was reading my thoughts. She was highly empathetic. She always overtook me in the course of thinking and acting. Until our last meeting at St.Paul’s she was very bright and penetrating and unfortunately faster than I, she was, in leaving this community.
At the end I would like to express my admiration for you, David for setting a beautiful example of taking care of your wife. Your patience towards this difficult period is truly inspiring. Both you and Nancy are in my prayers.

It is with great sadness that we received the news about Nancy. Because we know Dave Partridge to be such an intelligent, considerate and caring engineering classmate and colleague, there is no doubt that Nancy reflected these same values. Our hope is that the memories that the family cherishes and shares will be a source of comfort in the days ahead.

I am one of Nancy's five remaining cousins.
I thought long and hard about what I wanted to express knowing she had so little time left.
Nancy loved reading and I'm not sure she liked poetry but my I found something I think she would have liked.
I AM NOT RESIGNED TO THE SHUTTING AWAY OF LOVING HEARTS IN THE HARD GROUND. SO IT IS, AND SO IT WILL BE, FOR SO IT HAS BEEN, TIME OUT OF MIND: INTO THE DARKNESS THEY GO, THE WISE AND THE LOVELY. CROWNED WITH LILIES AND WITH LAUREL THEY GO; BUT I AM NOT RESIGNED.
LOVERS AND THINKERS, INTO THE EARTH WITH YOU. BE ONE WITH THE DULL, THE INDISCRIMINATE DUST. A FRAGMENT OF WHAT YOU FELT, OF WHAT YOU KNEW, A FORMULA, A PHRASE REMAINS, - BUT THE BEST IS LOST.
THE ANSWERS QUICK AND KEEN, THE HONEST LOOK, THE LAUGHER, THE LOVE, - THEY ARE GONE. THEY ARE GONE TOO FEED THE ROSES. ELEGANT AND CURLED IS THE BLOSSOM. FRAGRANT IS THE BLOSSOM. I KNOW, BUT I DO NOT APPROVE. MORE PRECIOUS WAS THE LIGHT IN YOUR EYES THAN ALL THE ROSES IN THE WORLD.
DOWN, DOWN, DOWN INTO THE DARKNESS OF THE GRAVE
GENTLY THEY GO, THE BEAUTIFUL, THE TENDER, THE KIND;
QUIETLY THEY GO, THE INTELLIGENT THE WITTY, THE BRAVE.
I KNOW. BUT I DO NOT APPROVE. AND I AM NOT RESIGNED.
Poem by Edna St. Vincent Millary
I loved you Nancy and will always miss our get togethers.
