Obituary of Jean Marie Murton
MURTON, Jean Marie (nee Smalley)
Died peacefully in the hospital with family by her side on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 in her 82nd year. Predeceased by her beloved husband Jack, sister Ruth, daughter Linda and many other extended family members. Loving mother to Keith (Christy), Elaine (Ron) and Diana. Cherished grandmother to Adam, Meghan, Jon, Jennifer, Mike, Haley, Cory, Cathy, and David. Great-grandmother to Xavier, Skylar and Axel. Also remembered by sister-in-law Eileen Orr, brother-in-law Doug Dobson and dearest caregiver Melody, family and friends.
Jean grew up as a minister’s daughter and lived in many Ontario towns such as Ridgetown, St. Thomas, Smiths Falls, Mimico and Scarborough. She began her teaching career in the Toronto Board of Education at the age of 17 and retired to raise her family. She had a lifelong passion for music, playing the piano and clarinet for many years in the East York Concert Band. While her mind and body failed her in recent years, she is now at peace. She will be remembered as a lifelong caregiver with quiet strength and a big heart.
The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22nd. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, September 23rd at 11:00 a.m.
