Obituary of Shirley Douglas Giles

SHIRLEY DOUGLAS GILES

 

In heartfelt memory of Mrs. Shirley Giles, née Gib, who passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017, in her 94th year.

 

Beloved spouse of the late Alan Campbell Giles.  Daughter of the late John Joseph Gib and Norma Millard, née Evans, sister of the late Mrs. Phyllis Barber and the late Colin Gib.  Aunt of Pamela Mérey (Peter) of Toronto, and Norma Thompson, Douglas Gib, and Teri Gib, of Rock Hill, South Carolina.  Great-aunt of Sabina (Ken), Céleste (Theodoros), and Marguerite (Paul) Mérey.

 

Shirley was proud of her over 43 years of service with The Bank of Nova Scotia, having been appointed in 1961 as the first female branch manager in Canada.  That same year, she became a life-long member of the North Toronto Business & Professional Women’s Club, including club president and provincial president.

 

The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8th.  A service will be held in YORK FUNERAL CENTRE, 160 Beecroft Road, on Saturday, September 16th at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment.  Reception to follow in the York Funeral Centre Willowdale Suite.  Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
