Obituary of James Michael Reeve

Passed peacefully at home on Sunday, July 16, 2017. Dearly loved husband of Doris (Niven) for 63 years, father of Brian (Rita) and Mark (Roberta) and grandfather of Christine, Robert, Nicole, James and Charlie.

Jim was born in Winnipeg on November 1, 1923 to George and Edith Reeve. He is predeceased by three brothers and one sister and survived by his brother Peter.

Jim received his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Manitoba in 1944. He then served two years as an officer in the Royal Canadian Navy. He earned his MBA from the University of Chicago after the war.

Jim had a very successful career in advertising, including serving as President and CEO of McCann-Erickson Advertising from 1960 to 1978. He also served as President of the Institute of Canadian Advertising in 1970.

After Jim retired from McCann-Erickson he was involved over the next 20 years in consulting, teaching and small business investment. Jim was also an active member of the tennis section of the Toronto Cricket Club for more than 30 years.

Jim maintained a love of learning throughout his entire life. Despite challenges with his sight in the later part of his life, Jim always maintained a positive attitude and a sense of humour. He particularly enjoyed his participation in a book club that he helped found and that has been meeting for more than 56 years.
