Obituary of Heinz Joachim "Joe" Janthur
HEINZ JOACHIM “JOE” JANTHUR
Known to family and friends as “Joe”, passed away peacefully in North York on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the age of 82. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Theresa Janthur (McCaffrey), daughter Marlene and son Charles, along with his daughter-in-law Marnie, and grandchildren Barrett, Robert, Madison and Isabel.
Joe was a lifelong banker, philatelist, educator and most notably a family man. He immigrated to Canada as a teen, completed high school in Kitchener and graduated with degrees from York University and Queen’s University. His career started at CIBC where he quickly advanced to lead operations in Switzerland and Germany. Upon returning to Canada he continued with the bank, developed various sections of Canada’s Bank Act and was later recruited by the Bank of America. In 1983 Joe’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his own company, DEPAG, which he continued to manage until his passing. A strong believer in international trade and investment, Joe founded and operated the Federation of Export Clubs Canada and the Central Ontario Export Club. In his spare time Joe was a passionate stamp collector, enjoyed curling, and maintained memberships in several stamp and business clubs. Known for his honesty and integrity, Joe’s legacy is strong and enduring. He will be missed by many.
The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Tuesday, June 27th from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
