We will always treasure our memories of Gary and his wide circle of friends and family, especially, Gary's darts pals and his friends in Germany who, on his behalf, were so welcoming to us when we visited there. Gary encouraged friendliness in everyone who knew him and I guess that's one of the traits that made him so special. Rest in peace, dear friend!

I was shaken to hear the news of the death of my former teammate Gary Hoag, who was 10 years younger than me. He was outstanding in the history of sports in Kassel, Germany. My condolences go to Renate, Michelle and Kally.

They say "you can choose your friends, but you can't choose your family." When it comes to Gary Hoag, we were fortunate. Gary is my cousin, and if he hadn't been family I would've chosen him as my friend. Family meant everything to him, and so did friendship. He was honest, faithful, loving and caring. Everyone was given the smile that Hoagie was known for. He loved his family; Renate, Michelle, Kally and Michelle's husband Chris; and his love encompassed his cousins, in-laws and extended family; and he was so looking forward to the birth of his first grandchild - a boy.
Gary, we were kindred spirits as children and young adults. I have memories of our antics that I will cherish. And your smile and the sparkle in your eyes will stay will me forever. We will cherish your memory, and celebrate your life. Love you xoxo

I am very sad about Gary. I will never forget my wonderful time in Inglewood during my visit, together with Arno, in the spring of 2009. The hospitality of Gary and Renate was unforgetable and I wiil remember Gary as a very pleasant and fine fellow.
I wish Renate and the children will have the strength to cope with the loss of this dear person.
I am very glad I was able to get to know him.

I have had the great pleasure of knowing Gary since we were young kids playing sports at Maurice Cody School. I have many great memories of Gary throughout the 57 years that I have known him. He was always a kind and supportive friend and a great person to grow up with. The only thing that we get to leave this world with is the love that people have for us and Gary is surrounded with nothing but love as he goes to his next journey. We met Gary and Renate through friends Arno and Ellen from Germany. We only had the pleasure of Gary and Renate's company a couple of times. Gary was such a fun and happy guy from the moment we met. He told us many stories about Kessel and his hockey career. Such an interesting person. RIP my young man

Living far apart, but never far from our hearts.
